Fuck the Law. Fuck the Rules. Fuck Decency. This is Texas Football, motherfuckers!

Well, obviously, the punishment didn’t go far enough. The football team is supported and emerges from the school, so clearly the whole school should have been sanctioned. And of course, the school is part of the matrix of the community; surely, San Antonio deserves some sort of penalty. In fact, really, the whole state of Texas is to blame and should be punished.

Then isn’t this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, Greg - isn’t this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we’re not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen!

I’ll make some calls. If you have a telescope, please ignore any unusual satellite movements.

I am going to stand here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America.

Yes.

The ref who got put in the hospital was also Hispanic but I guess the race-baiting is a one-way street in the pro-assault direction.

So if we don’t agree with you, we are supporting assault. I get what you’re doing now, thank you. That is very helpful.

Good thing Duron at least didn’t brake the ref’s fuckin nose.

And also racist.

Okay. I see what type of poster you are.

Incidentally, every article I’ve read about this says the ref was treated for a concussion in an ambulance at the field; nothing about being taken to a hospital. If you have a cite for that, I’d like to see it.

Indeed. This is very important re: determining if those satellites are needed.

There’s no field treatment for concussion. He was certainly assessed for a concussion by paramedics. If he wasn’t transported, he likely didn’t have one (or it was mild).

Shocking video shows the player, now identified as Edinburg High School Senior Emmanuel Duron, getting ejected from the game in Edinburg. Duron then jumped back on the field and slammed into Referee Fred Gracia.

The referee was taken to the hospital. His condition is unknown.

I’m glad we’re back to determining just where the line is beyond which teams should not be able to gain a competitive advantage by making it known that they will physically harm referees.

*If any player intentionally and egregiously assaults an official e.g. in the manner that happened in this case: That’s the line for myself, the governing body of Texas high school sports, and essentially all high school sports governing bodies, who are responsible for actually dealing with the consequences of this issue.

*Only if the referee is verifiably hospitalized: Seems to be the line for Slow_Moving_Vehicle.

*Only if the referee is actually murdered: The line for Ruken and, giving them the benefit of the doubt, the coaches and parents of Edinburg High School.

*Not even if the referee is beaten to death by the player, but possibly if the referee is murdered with a weapon (position on shooting the ref was not shared in response to a direct question): Atamasama

I’d be upset about deliberately misstating what others have said in this thread, but you’ve already revealed yourself to be a disingenuous troll so there is no point. It would be the equivalent of yelling at a robodialer.

Indeed. I’m quite ok with non-murderers playing football. But only if they want to. Nobody should be forced to play football. I’m putting my foot down on that one. My limb has room if anyone wants to join. We have cookies. Allergen information available upon request.

Whereas you’re perfectly okay with preventing the wide receiver with the 3.7 GPA from getting a scholarship, and condemning him to a life of flipping burgers at McDonalds, to punish him for being on a team with a violent asshole.

I’m more concerned with the real referee than the nonsense hypothetical “wide receiver who goes from unknown in the recruiting scene to full DI scholarship in one game.” That wide receiver also doesn’t get to play his next game if his team just plain loses - should we award an extra 20 points to teams that have Hispanic wide receivers with 3.7 GPAs?

So if I understand correctly, 1 injured ref = 1 suspended player.

And the coach might not get to coach for a game or two.

And the school gets a sternly worded letter.

Bet you run out of refs before you run out of players.

One arrested and charged player. And given that these incidences are rare in a huge state, there’s nothing to bet on; they clearly haven’t run out.

My Christmas gift to you is a big animated billboard outside your bedroom window that says “THE ONLY REASON THEY ARE RARE IS BECAUSE OF THE TEAM DISQUALIFICATION PENALTY.”

“Jail won’t stay my hand, but by golly what about poor Joe’s post-season!”

Bulldozing their families’ homes might even be more effective. I mean after all, it’s their fault they raised kids who didn’t assault officials.
