Fuck: the US policy in the Mid-East

No, it won’t - there are anti-Israeli Jews just as there are Americans who seem to hate everything American. So - this isn’t proof either way.

Can’t say I’ve run into any of your writing here in the past - I’m still relatively new here (less than a year). Maybe I’m wrong, in which case I appologize - but you sure pushed all the right buttons further up the thread!

I’m calling them like I see them. Your pattern of expression above was typically anti-Israeli and anti-semitic. Again - I may be wrong, in which case I’ve already appologized, but you very definitely seem to have a negative knee-jerk reaction to Israel, which is what got to me in the first place. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck… I’ll assume it’s a duck until proven otherwise.

OTOH, I do absolutely take back the dig about “some of your best friends…”. Out of line, even for the pit. OK?

Dani

Of course. You can’t support a nation regardless of what actions they take, but Israel isn’t nearly at the place where we would need to do that. Change the fence/barrier/whatever to the proper border lines, and give back settlements not taken in war. Others should remain in Israel’s possession.

Uh, and some Jews have money, I hear. Not that I’m being anti-Semitic. I’m just saying.

While I don’t want to turn this lovely waste of a Pit thread into something substantial…

  1. The wall there is basically there to defend themselves. I can’t argue with that. It serves two purposes, one of which you sort of mentioned. It will be a major symbol that “this land over here is OURS” and may keep Palestinian terrorists out. But the latter part only needs to work halfway to be worth the cost.

  2. The “settlements taken by war” include everything. The whole area was conquered by Israel in wars. But I don’t think that’s what you meant.

Yeah - and some non-Jews have money, too. So what exactly is your point (except making a non-anti-semitic  remark about “all those rich Jews” )?

Dani

It depends. I vote for the whole candidate, and Israel is far from my only issue in choosing a candidate. The context would depend, as well: what do you even mean by “withdrawing support from Israel”? That could mean many things in many situations. Conversely, what does “supportive of Israel” mean? To me, being supportive of Israel means promoting activity which will lead to less random violence there, not to mention being supportve of all its citizens, Jews and non-Jews alike.

Would I like to see a President who would call the Israeli government on the carpet for allowing continued settlement activity, and for continued human rights violations? Hell yes.

  1. The barrier works. 1. 2. The first is in Hebrew, the second isn’t. There are better sources, but I don’t have time to go through archives today. If this is still a topic of discussion, could someone else help?

  2. Right, wars that others have started to destroy Israel.
