I just got to disagree with the OP here. I’ve just upgrade and have been running Vista for two weeks now without even a hiccup, I think it’s the best OS Microsoft has ever produced and just love it. I would like to add a hearty Fuck Asus though, I should never have strayed from Gigabyte. That’s about all. Oh and AMD rocks the Phenom is a perfectly named processor.

I think Vista gets a bad rap. Not that it doesn’t have flaws - it definitely does. But the obnoxious, annoying things about Vista are very, very obvious and the good things about Vista aren’t. For example, UAC is deliberately in-your-face and it rightfully pisses people off. But the increased stability and security of Vista aren’t noticeable in the short-term, especially since XP wasn’t bad in those areas. If you’re going from crash-a-day (ME) to hardly-ever-crash (XP) it’s obvious. But going from hardly-ever-crash to rarely-crash doesn’t jump out at you. (Or, hardly-ever-get-hacked to rarely-get-hacked.)
I admit I don’t think it’s worth upgrading to Vista, given the cost. But if you buy a new computer that comes with Vista, it’s probably not worth your while to reformat and install XP.
I’ve had Vista for about 4 months now, no complaints at all (I did do a little tweaking to adjust some of the minor annoyances but I do that with every new OS).
It might help if the OP gave details of some of the features he dislikes. Many of them may be user-adjustable.
I set up a dual boot arrangement with XP and Vista. I did it because I had software that only ran in XP. Now I have the later version of that software which runs in Vista. Consequently I NEVER boot into XP. Might be time to go back to a single-boot with Vista.
Don’t know, one of the other techs have kept raving about Asus and nagging about how good they are and I should try it so, I thought I’d give it a try. Here I am now all pissed at myself for not sticking with what I know to work and trying something different. The M3A has issues when you try to make use of the on board LAN. New BIOS doesn’t help updated drivers, no change. Disable the onboard LAN and install a separate PCI NIC and this thing has turned into lightning in an Altec case. I just love it.
I think most of us are defending the “defenseless computer operating system” as opposed to bashing it. I do believe though that it was the OP’s intention to bash the operating system rather than cheer on a porn festival. If the OP would come back and clarify his position maybe that would help.
Oh I forgot to mention, Fuck Asus.
Asus motherboards that is. Thier video cards have all worked well for me.
I openly encourage people that hate Vista to buy Macs. Why? Because they’re all fucking retards at this point.
Hardware problems? Maybe you should get something that doesn’t suck. If your computer was made in mid 2007 or earlier, then you should be using windows 3.1 or some shit. Anything with less than 2GB of ram, or that says “Pentium 4 inside” on it, is shit third world starving african children would laugh at.
Software problems? Cost of progress, particularly the 64 bit version (ZOMG MY SHITTY OLD 16 BIT PROGRAMS FROM 1992 DON’T WORK ANYMORE!). But I’d never use anything else. Stop whining, start emulating.
Annoyance problems? Most of that shit, like UAC, is there to shield the idiot users from themselves. And all of it can be removed/turned off. RTFM.
Performance problems? Vista smokes everything else at this point, so this can’t be used as an argument anymore.
I hated it initially, but it’s evolved to be pretty amazing now, to the point where I can’t imagine using anything else. Update the goddamn OS, get the 64 bit version, and learn to use fucking google, you can solve anything. This is the most stable, fun, well performing kernel of windows MS has ever made. Stupidity is infectious, stop spreading it.
