Fuck you and your North Face Jackets. THEY LOOK LIKE SHIT.

Alright, alright, alright.

I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to piss everyone off so much, okay? I’m not “outraged” about the jackets. OK? I got off a bus in which there were about 10 sorority girls with long straightened hair and the identical black North Face jacket, and I thought it was stupid, and I wrote a condescending rant about it.

I don’t hate anyone. I don’t think I’m “enlightened” about fashion or anything else, don’t put words in my mouth. Just forget I said anything, why don’t you.

Many years ago, my boyfriend bought me a NF jacket (expensive gift at that time) for my 18 th birthday. I went out that night, got drunk and puked all over it.
Oops :smack:

You know it is kinda funy.

In my neck of the woods you almost never see anyone in any of that fancy high tech clothing. I am sure it has it place. Well we do see it often in the summer when the tourists come up.
Common foot ware is the Xtratuf

“Fancy” Clothing is from NOMAR
But I get around in an old corduroy jacket and Carhartt stuff because it last so long.

If it is really cold I put on some gloves and a knit hat.

Carhartt seems to be becoming very trendy.

It will be a long trend because it take a while just to break the stuff in.

It does have its place. When you’re carrying your supplies around on your back, weight and bulk are big factors. And there’s no way I’d wear rubber boots in the bush. On the farm or in the garden maybe, but I can hear the ankles breaking just looking at those xtratuf boots.

Don’t worry about it. Not all rants have to be major. They don’t all have to be ripped from the headlines. Sometimes something just hits you wrong and you get pissed. No biggie. No real need to apologize.

I’d be shocked if there was a person here who hadn’t caught a glimpse of a group of kids dressed in a similar fashion and had the same thought you did. I haven’t seen a lot of North Face, but a year or two ago you couldn’t go out in the summer without seeing some group wearing ugly plaid sportcoats and trucker hats.

I don’t think it’s so much that you lose your pretention. I think you just get used to seeing it.

Depends. Which ear was it?

This year it is in with the guys here: Camoflague pants, ratty t-shirt, Tan Timberlake boots, and a big ol white truck with a stripe of camoflague across it like a big ol racing stripe.

Ok, not really, but Mizzou has a big Ag school and there are quite a few of these types here. Kind of nice actually. Seen a few pretty hot girls in camo pants too, which is definately interesting.

I forgive ugly trends if they serve a practical purpose. NFJ and Uggs, no matter how ugly, at least serve to keep people warm. Sandals serve to keep the feet cool. ::shrug::

Other trends deserve to be laughed at because they are both butt ugly AND impractical. Platform boots, for instance. I’m so glad that trend is over because someone was bound to break her leg sooner or later.

Well thank god the jackets are in style. Now I can switch. I’ve been hopping about in this damned thing for months now.

At the risk of walking into a punchline, two in my right earlobe.

Easy there, captain plain and simple, some of that NOMAR shit costs just as much, if not more than comparable TNF/Patagonia/Marmot/MH stuff. And I got news for you, if you don’t think Carhart has become trendy among the (southern) frat boy set, you’re in for a surprise.

Don’t apologize. The pit is the place for rants big and small. Let it out and don’t sweat what people say.

Interesting rant, because here in Brooklyn, Northface is popular with all the thug gangsters. Funny that little white sorority girls and project homies share the same taste in brands. Of course with the thugs its the puffy Michelin man jackets that are popular. The Denali is popular too, but only the ones with 4 wheels and spinning rims. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think the concept is overpaying for a name brand. For less than half the price of this you can get this. The jackets are made with the exact same patented material (Polartec 200).

But those garments aren’t the same. The North Face polar fuzz is twice the weight and presumably has a higher insulation value than the REI.

All I know is, one day my Members Only jacket will be back in style!
