Fuck you, Czarcasm, for locking my thread.

Why can’t you just bring a book to read like everyone else? At least bring one with your circuitry crap so when you get detained in O’Hare you won’t be bored.

On the bright side, when this happens you can let us all know how TashaBot is doing.

Guns are not allowed in the cabin per FAA regulations. Electronics are.

Bullshit. Look at Giraffe’s post. Do you see “VCO3’s Get Out of Jail Free Card” on it? Just because you’re abiding by Giraffe’s ruling doesn’t mean that you can do whatever you like otherwise.

If you want to go down in a flaming ball of stupid, that’s your prerogative, but it is going to be because you are choosing to act in a manner that violated the letter and spirit of the board’s rules, not because you’re being victimized.

Well, if you explain nicely that you’re not carrying any bullets, I’m sure it will be no problem. Remember to cock it loudly and show the empty chamber to anyone who looks concerned!

Now, I’m an amateur herpetologist. Do you think it would be okay for me to bring a few dozen snakes on a plane? 100, tops. I mean, they won’t be poisonous or anything, give me a little credit here! Just a few milk snakes and maybe a half dozen small constrictors…

I am in no way joking about carrying a “hoax bomb” on an airliner. I’m doing the complete opposite, and I reject this claim of yours. It’s an outright fabrication, and I demand that you rescind your comment.

Actually, this is starting to get a little unfair. If VCO3 brings components that look like they might be bomb parts, it’s not a mark of stupidity or ignorance for anyone to assume they might be bomb parts. I recall a similar passage in U.E. Baughman’s memoirs Secret Service Chief (he was head of the Service 1948-61) in which he describes the headaches of having to deal with all the gifts people send presidents, including gifts of food. He admitted that while it was unlikely that the food was sent with anything other than positive motives, testing (for example) a bag of oranges for tampering was expensive, difficult and would invariably destroy the oranges in the process, so the only practical response was just to toss them. Sure, 99.9% of the gifts were harmless, but nobody wanted to be the guy who let that thousandth package through.
Anyway, I figure VC03 is sliding from a troll worth the occasional laugh to a troll who is killing the joke by dragging it out too long.

I an deeply offended that you’re insinuating that I’m somehow “violating the letter and spirit of the board” by asking a legitimate and non-controversial question in GQ.

Or what? You’ll send a flashy LED buzzer gizmo to his house? Just as an entertaining harmless gift, of course, to show there are no hard feelings.

(bolding mine)

OK, you’re making a pretty strong case for stupid, but I’m still leaning toward trolling, personally.

VCO3 has a valid point about the insult used outside of the pit when the thread was closed, and surely no one here is dumb enough to buy the “the question was called stupid, not the poster” line.

Well, almost no one…

Rescind what comment? It’s a statement of fact. You’re either completely serious about carrying a device that appears to be a hoax bomb onto an airliner, or you’re pulling our leg on a public website about carrying a device that appears to be a hoax bomb onto an airliner. Both are incredibly bad ideas.

Even if it had been a blatant “VCO3 is stupid” when the thread was closed, the moderator was acting as a moderator and isn’t subject to the same rules. Similarly, tackle a man and you might get charged with assault. Tackle a man in the course of your duties as a police officer and you’re just making an arrest.

Had the moderator (I forget which one it was) called him stupid and not closed the thread, I’d take issue with it, since it reflects a moderator acting as a poster, doing something other posters are denied.

And VCO3, I’m one of your fans but even I agree that some of your reposnses here can be seen as going a bit overboard. I actually feared you were going to come back all meek and Frances Farmer like with your tail between your legs, I’m glad to see you didn’t do that at least, but do reel it in a bit.

IT IS NOT A FUCKING HOAX BOMB, FUCK YOU FOR SAYING THAT OVER AND OVER AND TRYING TO FRAME IT THAT WAY

Fuck this. Fuck this thread, fuck you, etc. I’m not going to sit here while a fucking embarrassment of a moderator leads the “troops” in a repeated bashing of me, calling me stupid, calling me a troll, etc. This is INSANITY. Why is the mod allowed to do this?

Please lock this thread. Throw it away. Fuck it.

I do agree that the question was stupid in that most people with a modicum of common sense would know better than to bring circuit boards onto a plane. Even in a pre-9/11 world I wouldn’t have done it.

However, I disagree with a mod saying stupid question. I was told that mods are allowed to post and make comments but must distinguish between when they are acting as mods and when they are acting as a poster. In this case Czarcasm should have either created two separate posts, one as a regular poster showing their opinion of the OP and a second one as the mod closing the thread or else put in the standard [mod hat on/mod hat off] notation. I don’t believe that a mod would intentionally lock a thread that they feel is stupid but they commentary was unnecessary.

Having said that, I am going to be traveling to a juggling convention and need to practice on the way. Can I bring my machetes along to practice on the flight?

He didn’t say it was, he said it could appear to be a hoax bomb. Or it could appear to be a real bomb.

That’s the thing. You know it’s not a bomb. I know it’s not a bomb. We don’t matter. What matters is, The Man ain’t gonna let you assemble something that appears (there’s that word again) to be a bomb to the untrained eye on an airplane.

And I’ll wager that the only reason “Breadboard Electrical Components/Flashy Lights/Buzzers” isn’t on the TSA list of banned objects is because you’re probably the first person who thought it would be a good idea to assemble such on a plane.

“Is a hoax bomb” and “looks like a hoax bomb” are functionally indistinguishable. You admitted it looks like a hoax bomb in your OP, remember?
