Fuck you, Czarcasm, for locking my thread.

Hey, I haven’t called you any names or anything. In exchange, could you lemme know what airline is getting your business? I have a coupla trips coming up, and I’d like to avoid controversy if possible.

Y’all don’t remember what Manhattan used to say in GD, do y’all? Now that was some fine insulting.

/raises her hand

So, my question for today is as follows:

Why is it than when everyone who does not own a pair of Moderator Underoos calls VCO3 out for asking a patently stupid question, he fails to become indignant and huffy, but when anyone who does own a pair of Moderator Underoos calls him out on the same grounds and, often, using the same words and phrases, he’s “hurt and offended” and uses his hurt and offense to work himself up into a frenzy of conspiracy theories and (looking at the preview) flame-out glory?

There were a dozen different posters in the original thread (and in this one) informing him in no uncertain terms that it was stupid-ass question. This is because it was a stupid-ass question - what’s more, it was a stupid-ass question he admitted in the OP was a stupid-ass question he already knew the answer to.

Sadly, I expected this sort of response. You complain that you’re picked on, and when someone who has no dog in the fight tries to provide, as best as he can, a non-biased perspective, you respond with insults.

Simply untrue. You are assigning motivation to the moderators which you have failed to demonstrate as true. From an outside perspective, assuming you are telling the truth about your motivations (that you’re legitimately curious) and the moderators are telling the truth about theirs (that they felt it was a dumb question that was already answered), I don’t see where the complaint is. Threads are routinely closed that have been severely hijacked or devolved.

Unlike real life conversations, threads that meander on and on, and end up miles from the OP are very confusing. The question at hand WAS answered and, if you felt the need to discuss the ethics of airline hobbying, perhaps you would have been wiser to set up another thread. And stick to the topic.

Further, you CLAIM the conversation changed, now maybe I’m missing something, but, I don’t see it. All I see is people in different ways that it’s a dumb idea to bring a breadboard on a plane. You seem to be the only one who thought it was unfair. I don’t think that quite qualifies as a change in conversation.

Did you really want people’s opinions, or just their reactions? Did you honestly expect anyone would react any different than, at best with a rolling of the eyes, and some likely with offense? Surely you’ve been here long enough to have known when you drafted the OP that making a blanket statement about women would cause some sort of reaction. Did you honestly expect anyone would say “You know, I can’t imagine how anyone would get that confused with something you shouldn’t have on a plane. I wish I’d thought of bringing one, next time I fly, I’ll bring my breadboard along and impress the security staff by making it blink, flash, and beep.”? Since you “know human nature”, then you would have also known exactly how your OP would be perceived and, expecting those sorts of reactions, is tanamount to trolling, if not deliberate trolling in its own right.

So speaking of which, I’m through providing you with mine. May your banning be swift and painless.

And yet, you haven’t.

What if it’s a hoax hoax bomb? Would that make it real?

It must be, 'cause that just blew my mind!!

The knitting comment though, I don’t see how anyone could find misogynist- I mean seriously, who here has ever seen a man knitting on an airplane?

If I were trying to set off a bomb on an airplane, I wouldn’t use an electrical detonator. But, I know more about explosives than I know about electronics. In general, most people don’t know a whole lot about either. Just like when giving a speech, you’ve got to tailor your words and actions to your audience. This is not a difficult concept to grasp.

I got a bigger laugh out of this than any of VC’s antics, so I guess it was all worthwhile.

Death-by-mod, I do believe.

I see a third option in between incredibly stupid and troll. Personally, there are times when I think of a question, I am 99% sure I know the answer, but I post the question anyway in the odd chance that I am mistaken.

While perfectly kosher by Pit standards, I dont like the way I see VC03 getting bashed around like this. Something doesn’t ring true with me… I cant put my finger on it. Maybe it’s my overdeveloped sense of underdoggery, or maybe it’s because I kinda like the guy, but I think we’ve reached a point where it’s being mean for mean’s sake.

If that were true, his follow-up posts wouldn’t be so idiotic. Instead of “I was trying to ask an innocent and non-controversial question! I’m hurt and insulted!” we’d see “Geez, I just thought there might be a chance this is possible, you don’t have to jump down my throat.”

Which is why, I assume, they tell you to turn off cell phones and other personal electronics? Unless your amateur hour circuitry has been cleared by the FCC, nobody is going to take the chance that you might power it up and fling the navigational controls into a tizzy. Or, more likely, given the level of competence you display in your posting, that you’d release the magic smoke from one or more components leading to the plane having to land while they sorted out why all the fire alarms were going off.

Neither of those statements is true.

My poor friend Donny was stuck in a sport coat in a roasting terminal at O’hare in June because he couldn’t remove it without showing his service piece. He could pull it out in the cabin, it just wouldn’t be a good idea. And he doesn’t need to ask a message board to figure that out. But he’s smart.

Try whipping out a cell phone in the middle of the flight in front of the stewardess and an air marshal. Loudly announce you’re going to make a call. See where that leaves you.

Bring a hunk of electronics with you called a “Taser” to the airport. See how far you get with that.

Continue the flame out.

Do you take it as a personal attack when the responses confirm that which you 99% suspected?

He says he does. I don’t believe that he actually does, but he does say he does.
[sub]wouldn’t youse?[/sub]

  1. You started a Pit thread, you fucking retard. Even though you think the Pit is solely some sort of spaz-out rant blog, commenting on other posters’ behavior is also allowed here.
  2. I haven’t lead anyone in anything. I posted my opinions on the topic of your OP.
  3. Quit being such a fucking baby.

No.

I saw one knitting at Burger Queen.

Hey, I merely pointed out that someone who did something similar to what he’s suggesting got arrested, and got called a moron for it. Ball’s in his court on that one.

Yeah, but your first response to the naysayers would be “OK, I thought so. Thanks.” Not “what the hell is wrong with you for saying I shouldn’t swallow a live weasel? It’s not specifically mentioned in the constitution!” The OP was only part of it. The hysterical follow-up made it pretty clear what’s happening.
