As a general rule, any thread that has the phrase “Fuck you” in the title is probably not a Great Debate.
Whuffo? I already knew that people get hurt in war… didn’t need Doonsesbury to teach me that (did you? Seriously??).
And I do NOT have jaundice!
Nor am I covetous.
[sup]Mmmmm. Scum![/sup]
You must have been absolutely inconsolable when the Rusty Nail sank…
For 34 years newspaper editors haven’t been able to decide if doonesebury should be on the editorial page or the funnies. I don’t think debate will help that.
I’ve been a reader almost since the beginning and I have to say I was suprised at the strip when it revealed that B.D. lost a leg. What suprised me most was that B.D. was without a helmet for the first time ever.
That wasn’t the only place the war has touched the funny papers. Rob Wilco’s cousin returned from Iraq after losing a leg in the Get Fuzzy strip.
Moderator’s Note: Moving to the Pit.
Your writing style is so obtuse that this was the first post of yours in this thread that I understood. And I believe this was your seventh post although it was only the eleventh post in the whole thread. You really ought to stick to simple declarative sentences from now on.
The first thing I noticed in the OP was the word goth in the username. This most likley means s/he looks for any nihilistic meaning in everything and is never truly happy unless miserable.
Lighten up, I’m one of the devil Republicans, and I enjoyed the strip as well. Now back off before I send my angry demons to haunt your soul. devil horns (Man, we need that smilie)
I believe the OP was trying to give a sarcastic response to others(supposedly right-wing Republicans) who have made the claim previously that Doonesbury is bad because it isn’t a “gag” strip.
Padeye, that’s what I was going to post about - I have liked Get Fuzzy since we discovered it a couple of years ago, and that definitely isn’t supposed to be a heavy-handed, tear-jerker comic. My husband and I were joking about “Get Fuzzy goes For Better or Worse”.
The OP - meh. When come back, bring comprehensibility.
If I may suggest for future comic-strip commentators, state the date of the particular cartoon that prompted your reaction. When I clicked the OP’s link, I got the May 2nd strip about the CIA intern fantasizing about his capture of bin Laden, not the May 1st one about B.D.'s daughter learning about his injury and imminent return (which, I’ll admit, I didn’t find particularly objectionable).
Thanks Bryan, I was going to point this out as well.
alericthegoth: By now you are probably hyperventilating from all the deep sighs of exasperation resulting from reading the responses from some of the people that post to this board.
I’ll say it once again: irony is lost on about 99% of the population, this board included.
Honestly, folks, are you all that dense or is it just because it’s a weekend and the synapses aren’t all firing?
I get it. But I have to warn you that Lynn is going to be along shortly…
I have to add another ‘Whuffo?’… this wasn’t started in the Pit, it was originally in GD.
T’was moved here by MEBuckner.
Not a “g” goth. A Visigoth.
By descent, as well as inclination.
And while I will confess to a weakness for girls in white makeup and little black dresses, I don’t think I would classify myself as into the “goth” scene (small “g”
They’ve sort of been taken over by the pseudovampire thing.
The male heirs in the family, amoung whom I count myself (tho’ I applaud on principle your use of the non-gendered “s/he”) have always found the Sack of Rome to be a terribly high achievement to measure ourselves against, but as they say, you cannot choose your ancestors, only your friends.
Since I judge from your comment that you are unacquainted with the history of the Visigoths, I take the liberty of a tiny cut and paste, with link following.
" Alaric (about AD 370-410), the first Germanic leader to take Rome, was likely born about 370 on an island named Peuce (the Fir) at the mouth of the Danube River . He was wellborn, his father kindred to the Balthi or Bold-men, next in worth among Gothic fighters to the Amals. He was a Goth and belonged to the western branch, or Talk:Visigothhttp://www.4reference.net/encyclopedias/wikipedia/Alaric.html

Grim, ain’t it?
I utterly failed to convey my point, which was actually meant as a recognition of how well drawn Joanie was. Trudeau managed to convey a remarkable slug of empathy with a great deal of ecnomy (sor of his trademark, I guess).
I was groping for some context in which these simple-minded fools could stretch their imagination to put themselves in the place of a parent delivering the news in question.
Oddly enough the empathy gene seems to be turned off in the pubs.
by the way–you folks who vote republican? Unless your income (not aggregate wealth, but incom) is over a quarter mil per year, you are morons because you are being fleeced for the enrichment of those who do have such incomes.
Ah…
And this is any worse than being fleeced by the dems for their own purposes?
Ahhh, that makes much more sense. Thanks for clarifying and sorry I blew up.
Underlining mine.
Some of us find Trudeau’s incessant leftist drivel tiresome.
Or, when possible, a direct link to the proper date instead of just linking to the current strip.
