Doonesbury is SO FUNNY!!!

Zonker returns to California to run for governor, and EVERYBODY he meets is ALSO RUNNING FOR GOVERNOR!!

The guy sitting next to him on the plane: RUNNING FOR GOVERNOR!!

The skycap guy from the airport: RUNNING FOR GOVERNOR!!

The cabbie from the airport: RUNNING FOR GOVERNOR!!

He arrives home and guess what? His mom is RUNNING FOR GOVERNOR!!

Hoooo Hooooooo!

Does the fun ever start??!!

You prefer “Mallard Fillmore”?

where did that come from?

anyway … i’d say mallard is even less funny than doonesbury.

any more smartass remarks?

Maybe you should write your paper about that awful cartoon that got you so angry. I think they have a file set aside for that sort of crank mail - I mean, thing.

W as a clueless asterisk in Imperial Roman gear? Makes ME laugh!

well, there’s no accounting for taste.

can the same be said for septic partisanship?

If it’s septic partisanship you want, I’m sure we’ve got better around here somewhere…

Hell, I thought it was funny. Not as funny as the recall election itself, but kudos to Trudeau for at least trying to follow an act like that.

So, when can we expect your forthcoming rants on Cathy, Family Circle, or Prince Valiant? That is, of course, assuming that this rant itself wasn’t prompted by “septic partisanship.” There are an awful lot of comics that are immeasurably worse than Doonesbury. Why single this one out?

Well, now that you mention it…

“Who Pitted The Family Circle?”

“Nott Me!”

Best. Post. Ever., Otto.

Although it’s actually Family Circus which I knew but drew from the above faulty source material but I was just so happy to have a joke to contribute…

It’s funny, I was actually thinking about starting a rant (or possibly a Cafe Society topic) about how lame most of the long-standing comics strips have become. Garfield, Family Circle, Cathy, and the like… even the ones that started out kind of iffy have become blatantly dumb.

Doonesbury wasn’t one of them, though… at least Trudeau keeps it moderately fresh.

The “everybody running for gov.” but was a little late and unoriginal, IMO. Might have worked better few a weeks ago.

There’s lead time on every comic in syndication. You can’t draw up a comic and say “Print this tomorrow.”

Topical jokes have to be a bit stale or completely eschewed.

As much as I like Doonesbury, the California recall election thing is being beaten into the ground. I hope he’s heading for an overall punchline here.

I can’t wait till he gets back to the story line about B.D. on his way to terminate Uncle Duke with extreme prejudice . . .

I miss Bloom County. :frowning:

Did I like the recent run on Rumsfeldisms? Oh, yes.

Yeah! A talking duck! Bwahahahahahahaha! Classic!

Remember, Zonker’s mom has a history in politics. She was a delegate from Walden Puddle during the… god, '72? election, and voted for McGovern. If I recall correctly.
