Fuck you, right-wing, anti-American traitors! (the effort to stop Fahrenheit 9/11)

Sorta like Rush Limbaugh, huh? Yet, he’s on the air and people can listen or not, as they please. When Moore’s movie gets into theaters, people can choose to go or not, as they please. That’s they way it’s supposed to work.

Any intellectually honest opinion starts with actually seeing the film in question, then doing research via unbiased sources if there are questions. I don’t support Moore unthinkingly. I support the way his films offer up ideas to think about. They’re certainly more interesting than any ideas that right-wingers offer up.

Theater owners are not going to be “terrorized” by that ludicrous press release. The only thing that “terrorizes” a theater owner is the thought of not getting enough ticket sales and concessions to keep his business going. This is not supression of free speech; this is just a boycott with some hyperbolic rhetoric attached.

Here’s one of them. You can find others by doing a simple Google search.

“I’d make an effort to stop Michael Moore from ever making a movie again if I could.”

From your mouth to God’s ear. Any idiot can support “freedom of speech” for stuff they want to hear; it takes a real American to support “freedom of speech” they don’t want to hear.

So far in this thread, Republicans and Democrats have BOTH accused the other side of being anti-American merely for thinking an opinion contrary to their own.
Now, at the very least, one side must be incorrect. Is it probable - hell, do you even think it’s possible - that both sides are incorrect? Could it be that neither side is unamerican?
Can we all just agree to listen to what the other side has to say even if you personally think it’s doubleminus bad and should lock the speaker in Room 101 until they’re cured?

Really? A “blithe assumption”?

Where might people have got the idea that you would actually attempt to get Moore to shut up?

Let’s have a look at the post you made only 1 hour and 5 minutes before the one quoted above.:

In case you didn’t know, “I’d” is a contraction of “I would.”

So, first you say that you would shut Moore up if you could.

Then you say that, in fact, you wouldn’t even if you could, and that anyone who says you would is simply making “blithe assumptions.”

Which of those statements represents your true position, and which one is a lie?

The problem is that once you subscribe to a Democrat or Republican way of thinking you’ve already done the impossible task of taking a dump on your own head.

If Brutus loved this film and Reeder hated it their arguments wouldn’t change one goddamn bit.

… So why can’t Brutus or Airman hold the opinion that Moore is a lying hack and should shut up?

You’re not… AFRAID of them having that opinion, are you?

They’re welcome to their opinions but it would be nice if they could actually name something that Moore has lied about instead of just hurling the accusations.

They can. They did. Are you confused?

Well as long as we’re talking about movies being distributed, dare I mention The Passion of the Christ? Out of curiosity, I’m only asking for links to Pit threads about that one being shut down. SKG “officials” (among all other distributors) refused to carry it, with an “anonymous” head saying Gibson would never work for them again. So Gibson spent his own money to show it through New Market. He had a story to tell. Moore has a story to tell.

Why the uproar? If Mikey believes in it, spend the coin.
Oh, and I expect you Moories to decry the 1st Amendment violations of Gibson’s film being denied widespread distribution.

Huh? At its peak, The Passion of the Christ was playing in 3,408 theaters. How does that constitute being denied widespread distribution?

Um, how does a story saying Moore knew a year earlier than he said that a potential distribution deal wasn’t going to go through translate into Moore is suppressing details about his current distribution deal? Further, what details of that deal beyond the ones disclosed here do you think are relevant?

Maybe some good comes of it. You re right that the stupid labels don’t help. In fact they are a poor substitute for rational debate. But if the movie is shown, we can talk about the ideas presented and whether or not the information is accurate. What is inaccurate, if anything, should be exposed. What is accurate may be of importance.

But notice that it is not the movie itself that has actually caused polarization here. It hasn’t even been released yet. I support the right of Michael Moore to make the film and the rights of theater owners to show it. I also support the right of people to boycott and protest through peaceful means.

In my own life I have found it helpful to know the arguments from “the other side.”

BTW, I have found Airman Doors to be generally more open-minded than many of the people that I frequently disagree with politically. Besides, he showed his true colors in service to his country not so long ago – and for that, I am grateful.

Yes, once Gibson’s company distributed it!!

My fault for thinking you’d actually get the gist of the post.

As every American should be.

Next time anyone sees a man or woman in uniform, interrupt thier day to shake thier hand and say thanks. Trust me, they’ll appreciate it.

I believe that though Icon Pictures (Gibson’s company) produced the film, it was actually distributed by Newmarket Films. Is this not correct?

To the best of my knowledge, there were no 1st Amendment violations regarding The Passion of Christ. The government made no attempt to keep it from being distributed. No law requires a corporation to release a film. They probably lived to regret that they didn’t, however. It is one of the top ten highest grossing films in US history.

Airman et al please form an orderly queue and enter this thread with the lies
Moore has made. An analysis of his lies in F 9/11 would be of great help as I like the vast majority of the rest of the world haven’t seen it yet

Moore is a parasite that leeches off the title of a great book against the expressed will its author. He didn’t even bother to return a phone call from Bradbury, a man so much greater that Moore will ever be. Bad form Moore! You can trust me on this one because I know everything: Michael Moore is great big fat idiot.

I doubt that. After all, Reeder and Brutus are still around.
