Fuck you, Rowan County (KY) Clerk Kim Davis

Point online I read that struck me (sorry if already discussed): a county clerk’s job encompasses a LOT of fairly important approvals, not just marriage licenses. Are marriages the ONLY part of the duty that conservatives think should be up to the discretion of the clerk’s religion?

I just needed one a few weeks ago, as a matter of fact. As proof my wife was eligible to join my company’s health insurance plan under my policy.

That’s true, but to get a marriage certificate you have to get a marriage license.

In fact, in California they are the same form, except that the certificate has a few more fields filled out. Like the date of the wedding and the name of the officiant.

Wow. I’ve never had to prove anything regarding my wife or kids. Good thing too, I have no idea if I still have it.

Usually (barring a situation such as mentioned in my last post) it’s rather easy to get one. You contact the records office for the state or county in which you got married. Services such as this one make that easier.

That guy in the grey wife-beater has an awfully odd looking penis that he is displaying, as well as a pretty wide stance. Also, why is that guy in the funny hat caressing it if he finds gay marriage so offensive? At least the other fellow has enough sense to hold his left (dominant) hand behind his back so that he won’t be equally tempted.

Don’t be silly. That’s proof that Muslims are trying to force Sharia down our throats. It’s completely different than a government employee requiring employees and members of the public to abide by their religious beliefs.

 It took me a moment but once you see it you can’t unsee it.

Uh yeah, that’s why I said you need a marriage license to get married.

Why is spellcheck saying that officiant is spelled wrong? Odd.

Now she wants the Governor to say that it’s ok for her to deny the licenses.

“The Governor’s refusal to take elementary steps to protect religious liberties has now landed Kim Davis in jail,” Liberty Counsel founder and chairman Mat Staver said.

No, moron, that’s not what landed her in jail. You guys are completely wrong about every aspect of this situation.

Even Fox commentators are opposing her, and call her lawyer “stunningly obtuse.”

I never had to do this. Nor did I need it when we bought a home under the type of ownership only available to married couples. The only time in my entire married life that I was required to produce a marriage license was when I applied for a (non-tourist) visa in Mexico. They didn’t actually need it, they were just giving me shit.

I suppose one of us will need it to settle the other’s estate.

So therefore no one else ever has to do it?

At Shawshank, that’ll get you months in solitary.

The U.S. Consulate has asked me to present my certified marriage certificate on at least four occasions. In one case, it was all they needed and I made a trip to the Capital just for that.

I suggested they save work for everybody by making some computer notation (“have verified marriage certificate”) since, after all, any divorce would not affect our possession of that certificate. Needless to say, the suggestion only confused them.

Here is the oath Numb Nutz took:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm, as the case may be) that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of this Commonwealth, and be faithful and true to the Commonwealth of Kentucky so long as I continue a citizen thereof, and that I will faithfully execute, to the best of my ability, the office of ——————— according to law; and I do further solemnly swear (or affirm) that since the adoption of the present Constitution…”

They’re calling school off today in Carter County, where Davis is jailed, because of Mike Huckabee’s rally and the ensuing traffic clustershag. The county asked the organizers to move the rally to another time so this wouldn’t be necessary, and they refused.

Of course they refused, education can take a back seat to a politician trying to score points and improve his poll numbers.

That said, I don’t doubt that Huckabee truly does believe he is right in backing Ms. Davis: More fool he, but it may give him a temporary boost in the polls with the Religious Right voters.

I do feel sorry for her in a way, being a dead ringer for Dick Cheney. Right now, she’s a double waste of tax dollars. She’s presumably still getting paid for not doing her job because she’s in jail for not doing her job, and she’s costing taxpayers a bundle in feeding and housing her sorry ass. I say put an ankle tracker on her and confine her to her house.
