 I see it more as comedy. Especially Huckabees attempt to bring Dred Scott into it. It’s good info for me if I ever run into one of these bigots in real life.
Also, I work for county government. Twenty three years now. I find it quite interesting how this is… being handled.
I’ve been on this board for 10 years now, I’ve only ever put one person on ignore and it was D’Anconia. I’m generally against the ignore function. In his case it’s been totally worth it. There hasn’t been a more useless contributor to this board. I’m not missing a thing.
There is a new billboard in her town, where it seems that she may be less than universally supported.
“Dear Kim Davis, the fact that you can’t sell your daughter for three goats and a cow means we’ve already redefined marriage,” the billboard reads.
He’s not an enemy, that would require some degree of intelligence. He’s more like the screaming child three rows back in on the plane. I’ll put on my noise canceling headphones and move on with my life.
Judge David Bunning is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky. The state of Kentucky, its statutes and its legal system did not put Mrs. Davis in jail, the federal government did.
Southern Baptist Convention leader Russell Moore, you are a fucking idiot.
Sure, the situation could have been readily avoided. Kim Davis could simply have realized that signing a license does not mean she is giving moral endorsement, nor do I expect anyone applying for a marriage cares whether Kim Davis gives her moral endorsement or not.
Disagree. He’s not trying to find an equitable legal balance between individuals’ religious liberty and their official duties - he’s pretending in order to scare people and get them mobilized to keep his shrinking demographic relevant for as long a she can.
Anyone who takes Moore’s “guide” at face value, on the other hand, is definitely an idiot.
It is irrelevant if, in her opinion or her supporters’ opinions, she wins by being a martyr. What matters is that marriage licenses are issued to the applicants.
Of course, it’s impossible to determine any significant differences between death threats from people in her area and anonymous posters ranting on a message board in an obviously joking manner. Poor taste does not make those differences go away.
Wait, what? So if someone says “I hold X up as the basis of my morality”, we’re not allowed to point out hypocrisy unless we hold it up as the basis of our morality as well? What utter nonsense! The fact that I don’t believe in the bible doesn’t change the fact that Davis claims she does, and yet clearly cherry-picks her morals rather than applying the book as a whole. The point being, she’s lying about the bible being the source of her morality.
You are indeed invoking it to condemn her morality, so others get to invoke it to question yours. I understand how sputteringly angry you get when your idiotic tactics are used against you (nothing is more amusing to us than watching Bible-hating liberals try and fail to use it as a hammer, especially when they never shut up about others using it as a hammer), but come up with something new.
That makes absolutely zero sense. If a person who claims to live up to a certain set of values and condemns others for not doing so is then discovered to live in clear violation of those values there is a conflict.
Pointing out the conflict does not mean the observer becomes bound by that set of values by the simple act of making the observation.
Likewise, logically, we get to question yours. What is the basis for your morality, and how does it align with the Bible? You’ve already fallen well afoul of the “false witness” commandment, so the answer would seem to be that you’re seriously deficient.
No, you’re confused. Posters here are condemning Davis as a hypocrite and a liar if she says she sources her morality from the Bible and seeks to impose that morality on others but doesn’t follow the Bible herself. They are not condemning her for not following the Bible in itself. They are condemning her lies and hypocrisy.
While I applaud you for proving my point and using the Bible to question someone’s morality, I’m afraid I haven’t used it to cast aspersions on anyone. Better luck next time
