Fuck YouTube's ads

For fuck’s sake, there’s no need for a fucking ad every 45 seconds! I don’t need a fucking 6 second ad before every 30 second video and I don’t need you interrupting a 2 minute video after 45 seconds with a 15 second ad!

ENOUGH!

I get that the website wants to sell ads to make money, but JESUS FUCKING CHRIST back off a little already! Even the networks only showed a couple minutes of ads every 8 minutes; maybe use that as a metric instead of “another click = another 2 ads” you claggy-mouthed greedy fuckfaces, eh?

Cory Gardner (R-CO, for another few weeks), spent a lot of money on YouTube ads to convince my 7 year old to not vote for Hickenlooper. It must have worked, she did not vote for Hick. You know, if you’ve got a major political ad campaign targeting Minecraft let’s play videos, you’re doing it wrong.

Anyway, the point of that is for all of the annoyance they provide, I don’t think the ads are actually doing anything for the advertisers. Like the ones that are skipable before they mention the product.

It got bad enough that I found a solution to block YouTube ads on IOS without jailbreaking. I don’t remember if such talk is discouraged here. There is nothing illegal about it, for now, but I’ll leave it at saying it’s possible.

I just signed up for YT premium and so far I have to say it’s actually worth it. I watch a LOT of YT since I dropped cable.

The ads suck. I keep getting one particularly annoying one for Postmates that starts, “Times are tough right now, but you don’t have to Pad Thai them alone. Talk to your Pad Thai today…”

Fortunately, that’s as far as I get, because I skip it after 5 seconds.

What gets my goat is when I’m trying to watch a 15’ minute video and it’s interrupted by an ad that is over three hours long. What the hell?

The ads have really soared on YouTube.

I get it - they want you to sign up for ad-free premium.

The problem is, I only have so much money and EVERYONE wants you to sign up for “premium” service.

  1. I second the OP’s rant full-heartedly.
  2. Although I very seldom see any ads on YouTube and am not a premium subscriber. Is this because I am in Europe (if so I guess it’s coming to us as well sooner rather than later) or because I use a simple ad-blocker on my browser?
  3. What alternatives are there to You Tube if you want to watch music videos and some occasional lectures without feeding the FAANGs? I would be ready to go back to YT for occasional cute kitty video every now and then.

I keep getting ads for skiiing in Lombardy. The ski resorts are closed. The Italian government really doesn’t want visitors, especially from places, such as Switzerland, who have worse numbers.

So why are these ads running, and why am I getting them?

A combination of reasons.

Some YouTube stuff gets more ads than other stuff - it’s just a guess, but I suspect videos with a lot of views get more ads.

Ad blockers might help but probably won’t stop them entirely.

Your location might be a factor as well.

I never see Youtube ads. I have Adblock Plus on my browser. It’s free.

Adblock Plus no longer works properly with my very old computer/browser, so I’m seeing YouTube ads all the fucking time now.

I just watched a video and they fucking threw in an ad 4 seconds before the video ended.

I have both Adblock Plus and UBlock, the latter a recent addition due to FB cracking Adblock. I never see ads on Youtube. When I’m on someone else’s computer, I can’t stand the ad vomit for more than 30 seconds, and leave the place pronto.

Worst I saw, some while back, was an ad before the video that was about twenty eight minutes long. I always have my volume off before I start a video.

What bugs me is when I’m watching an ASMR video to get to sleep and it’s interrupted by a loud, obnoxious ad.

BTW, I’m watching these on an old iPad. If there’s an effective way to block ads in the iOS YouTube app, I haven’t found it.

Not quite the same topic, but I recently converted from Google music to YouTube Music, because I had to. I uploaded my entire music library to YouTube Music.

But now, when I listen to my music, there is a 15 or 20 second ad between every second or third song. Repeat, it’s MY music that I uploaded.

Fuck 'em.

You shouldn’t be getting ads when listening to your own uploaded music on Google Music. I don’t, and I’m not a subscriber.

Too late for me to edit. I mean you shouldn’t get ads on YouTube Music when you listen to your own uploads.

I didn’t at first. But the last couple of times I’ve used the service, the ads were there.

That’s strange. I’ve been listening to music for the last couple of hours, and not a single ad.

Well, must have been a thing last time I listened, which was a few weeks ago. I just tried it again and no ads.

Apologies, and glad to find out that it’s still ad-free!
