Fuckin' Drunk Driver!

Nope, but there was this one time where I burnt my upper palate on some fried food but that was cause I was a bit numb at the time, so that’s more due to faulty information rather than decision making skills. (Hurt like a sonnova the next day though.)

I didn’t say that. I said that my car was off limits.

And that was in my adult years of car ownership. When I was a teenager, I took some risks that would have rightly killed me or landed me in jail.

I’m not sure of the specifics of personal injury compensation, but I do know that uninsured drivers are a big enough problem in New Mexico that not having uninsured motorist coverage is tantamount to driving around without insurance yourself.

Just to point out, I wasn’t calling you guys out or anything. Just trying to wrap my head around the concept of drunk :: logical. Needless to say, I quit drinking 17 years ago *precisely *because of bone headed crap I pulled while I was drunk, including driving.

Now, I’m not saying I’ve never done anything questionable, just nothing I’ve regretted (yet). I see the potential for that and weigh it against the benefits. But I’ve even posted here before, that judging from news articles, I make better decisions drunk than many people do sober.

In cold, humid weather, I can’t take my neck through its full range of motion without pain.

Back in 1982, I was rear-ended at a stop light by a drunk doing about 40. He wasn’t insured and I took a mere $300 for pain and suffering; not wanting to piss off my insurance co.

What a huge mistake! Your friend should hold out for pain and suffering check big enough to provide him with 8-10 days of hooky a year. Believe me, having to drag oneself into work on those bad pain/stiffness days is no fun!

He shouldn’t let them rush him through physical rehab (which I wasn’t even offered back then), either.

Oh, not a problem. It’s just that years ago, when I got a car, I made a hard and fast rule about drinking and driving. In all those years of car ownership, I broke my own rule only once. In that case I had one beer at around midnight, and drove maybe 6 blocks to my GF’s place at around 3:00am.

I’m sorry about your friend’s accident, MacTech, but glad that he’s okay. I’m also glad to hear about the Mazda 6, because that’s the kind of car I drive, and it’s comforting to think it’s going to stand up for me if I’m ever in an accident.

No kidding! That’s a great advertisement for the Mazda 6!

Glad your friend’s okay. SB needs to go straight to jail and have her license revoked permanently for that kind of crap. Otherwise, who knows what’ll stop her? The guy who sat across from me when I was a teaching assistant had his license revoked for thirty days after he got caught drunk drivin’ a couple of years ago. Then last year he went out drinkin’ and drivin’ again…and killed his cousin. I haven’t heard from him since but I imagine there was a manslaughter charge at the very least waiting for him when he got home.

That’s why you take a cab to the bar, that way you can’t drive home. From where I live, round trip costs less than a round. *Much *easier to make the decision not to drive home when it’s not an option.

For the record, I’ve done my share of things most people would regret in the morning while drinking. Heck, I’ve “won” my rugby club’s Atrocity Belt every year since I’ve been here. It’s simply not worth it to risk it, though, knowing the consequences to both myself and others, regardless of my inebriated induced impairment.

Yow. I’ve never seen the address of an accused published in a paper before.

I’d say this is probably what makes the difference for you. You made the decision sober and you know it. I’d think most people acknowledge the idea but leave the decision making for when the question comes up. And then they’re drunk enough to be stupid about it.

I guess. It just surprises me that some people take the attitude that they’ll drink first, then make the decision of whether or not to drive.

I haven’t, either, but they’re starting to put convicted DUI mug shots on billboards here soon, and they’ve been publishing them in the papers, which I think is a good thing.

14 years ago, I wrecked my dad’s Trakker in a head to tail. (Long story, my fault, mom’s fancy oriental rug floormats wedged under the brake in bumper to bumper)

I was younger and had to move the next day. I felt fine.

My neck still aches to this day. Thought it was gone, and then it rained this week, nope, I still feel it.

Sheeeee-it.

Your friend Stark is one lucky sonuvabitch. Keep an eye on him for delayed injury signs that might show up later!

Jesus, that Mazda gave it’s life for him, and did well. I used to have a little Mazda GLC that got rear-ended, and even though the bitch who hit me ended parked in my hatchback space, I was fine. Good scrappy little cars.

My cousin’s fiancee was killed by a drunk driver with 4 prior DUIs, no driver’s license and no legal right to be in the US (previous deportation). Oh, and he was driving his employer’s truck. He’s doing about 14 years (hopefully). Her car was unrecognizable as even a car- you couldn’t even tell what color it had been.

I’ll give two to one odds she’s driving while out on bail, and plans to get drunk this weekend.
