Goddamn! Is there anyway to make a couple bucks on that fucking site? After a couple weeks of screwing around and I owe 10 times what I’ve made from that place. What the fuck.
Granted, once they finally credit me for the damn Nigerian scammers who keep winning all my auctions hundreds of dollars above what I expected and costing me huge ass final selling fees, I will only be paying half of what I’ve made. But that’s still a huge amount of fees.
I’m really enjoying the buying, but the selling sucks ass. Anyone else have similar issues?
By the way, how much do you think an autographed drill sergeant hat signed by R Lee Ermey would get on that site? What do collectibles like that go for?
Damn ebay! And what the fuck is with Nigeria? Do little kids there say they want to be a huge internet fraud when they grow up? lil bastards.
It is the worst of sites, it is the best of sites.
It’s the only game in town. They ARE greedy bastids, those eBay owners. And they get greedier all the time, but if you use the site correctly, over time, you can maximize what you get for your merchandise. Yeah, it costs to do that. But what is your alternative?
They’ll reinburse me eventually, but it is a big pain trying to email them.
I dont think it’s worth it to use ebay for small items. There is a fee just to post the item. If it doesn’t sell, you still pay that fee. If it does sell, they will take like 6 or 7 percent of the final price as well. Then, if that person uses PayPal to buy it from you, then PayPal takes their precentage as well.
I really think I will just stick to buying on that site. It really is a buyer’s site, I think.
As for what’s happening:
Yea, some Nigerians are using stolen accounts to bid the shit out of my item. So the final cost ends up at like 1,000 dollars. Then they win and tell me they’ve paid (they haven’t) and I should ship to their husband or whatever in Nigeria. Well, of course they dont pay, and I dont ship. I email ebay and they take action on the account. But they dont automatically refund the final fees. They say I have to fill out a form for that. But they’ve deleted the auction. So when I try to enter the item number from the auction, it comes up as invalid, because eBay just deleted the whole freakin thing. But they didn’t delete from my invoice.
I’m sure they’ll take care of it. It’s just a pain. And I’m just learnin that thing as I go.
But I think I’m done selling on there. I’ll stick with buying.
Wrong. I’ve informed them of the scam. They took action on the account and deleted the auction and said I could relist it at no charge. Then they said “If that person was the final winner I would have to file for reinbursement of the final selling fees”. Well I can’t file that, because the auction no longer exists. So I have to just email them and explain to them to delete that charge.
What would you expect them to do, under the circumstances?
By the way, your cite of “6 or 7 percent” final value fees is wildy wrong. The highest percentage charged is 5.25% for items less than $25, and slides downward as the final value increases.
I give for you $1500000. I reely wants this project or. Can you send me the diferents for the sell prise to me. Keep xtra comision for yourself tho. I send you my inherretence check in the male. now you send me cash and projector ok.
Wow, you’re really trying to be argumentative today, aren’t you? Wildly wrong?? 5.25% is so extremely different than 6? Oh, my bad. You did notice I said “like 6 or 7. Right?”
And as far as what I expect them to do? Well, I’d expect them to not access a final selling fee on an auction that was reported as fraudulent in the first place. That’s just silly. If they can automatically credit the listing fees, they should credit the damn final selling fees as well.
You made a mistake.
NEVER refer to it by its actual name. It’s always “the item.” That way you don’t worry about copying and pasting a dozen times per hour.

I’m going to speak up in favor of selling on eBay.
I tend to think that for selling small ticket items it’s actually pretty good. However, I’ll also admit that for what I’ve been selling (comic books) I’ve been deliberately setting things up so that I’m making most of my money off shipping, rather than the sale price for the item itself. I don’t believe I’m charging unreasonable amounts for S&H, but when I’m selling lots of five or six comic books for just under a buck, and then charging S&H of about $4 (for media mail), you can see why I’m saying that I feel that I get more from the S&H than from the comics.
So, for some values of small, selling via eBay can work very well.
You can cut way back on the crap bids by setting the flag on your auctions that will block bids from accounts registered in countries where you don’t ship.
Specify your auction as North America only, for example, and only US & Canadian users will be able to bid.
Is the shipping value not factored in the final selling fees?
If that is the case, I will start selling things for a dollar and charge 85 dollars for shipping.
Well, then if I had retorted that the fees were more like 3 or 4%, you would be fine with that, because, y’know, 4% is not that much less than 5.25%. Right?
Hey, Fear Itself, go fuck yourself. You sitting around alone again on another Saturday night? Nothing better to do than come in here and start shit.
Yes, I would be perfectly fine with you retorting with any number you’d like. It wasn’t that big of a fucking deal and the uber precise accuracy of the statement was neither relevant nor paramount to the discussion at hand. Take your decimals and shove them up your ass. Nobody gives a fuck, asshole.
Let me catch you ever saying something tongue in cheek and I’ll jump all over you. I was soooo serious saying that.
