Fucking Insomnia!! (lame rant)

It’s 2:30 a.m. here in the great state of Michigan, and I have a terrible case of insomnia. I am dead tired, but whenever I try to sleep, my head just starts to throb, and I can’t gently drift off to dreamland. I’ve tried warm milk, I’ve tried counting sheep, I’ve tried everything short of taking pills. (The Earthworm used to have a little, um, problem with pills.) This sucks. I was awakened by a phone call at 9:00 this morning after suffering through the same thing last night - insomnia and a headache, not sleeping until about 4:00 in the morning or so. As far as i know, nothing is consciously bothering me and causing the insomnia; I just physically can’t seem to be able to sleep. Does anyone have any suggestions just in case this happens again in the future? (again, avoiding pills, even the “harmless” ones.)

Seeing as how this is kind of a lame rant, let me spice it up a bit.

MY FUCKING HEAD HURTS AND I CAN’T FUCKING SLEEP AND THIS SUCKS SIX MONKEY BALLS WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY (sp?) FELCHING A RABID DUCK!!

Oh yeah, to make matters worse … I just posted in MPSIMS, checked and re-checked my post, and still submitted it with an error. I re-posted, quoting myself, and fixed the error, but fucked up again. INSOMNIA RUINS EVERYTHING! :frowning:

Yeah it sucks. I’m going to stay up all night tonight and then all day tomorrow just so I’ll be able to go to sleep early tomorrow night and hopefully get my sleep schedule back on track.

Have you tried a large mallet to the head? It works, but there are known side-effects. I’m about to that point myself. :slight_smile:

is this an every-damn-day thing?

did it start around puberty?

if so, it’s your natural rthymm - pills are the only way I’ve found.

If it’s just a sometimes thing, try white noise, total darkness, droning music - whatever.

Let’s see:

bedroom is for sleeping - remove distractions (having a desk in a bedroom causes some ppl probs.

leave all problem OUTSIDE the bedroom

there are now pills which do PUT YOU TO SLEEP - little room for abuse, unless you really enjoy total unconciousness.

see a doc about these - few will write an open-ended script for them

Every so often, it happens to all of us. Like, for instance, me, right now. 3:52 am here in the lovely state of Arizona, and I can’t get to sleep to save my life. Or my job, which I have to be getting up for in… oh… two and a half hours.

On the plus side, it’s been a long time since I’ve read an entire novel without putting it down.

4:14 here. I have to “wake up” at 6:30 for school.

My sleep schedule has been… weird for the past couple of days. One night I can’t sleep, so I stay up all night. (or day, rather) The next night I fell asleep almost immediately at 1:30 A. M., and wake up at about 1:00 P. M. The next night I couldn’t sleep so I stayed up all day.

You can see where this is going. Argh. Soo damn tired, but yet I can’t go to sleep. I know that I’ll be extremely tired as soon as I step foot on the school’s property. Not a second sooner, not a second later.

Try taking anti-histamine pills. These are used in hospitals instead of sleeping pills, because they are safe and non-habit-forming.

I take an anti-histamine fairly frequently for this purpose and it works very well. Its only side effect is turning one’s politic beliefs to the extreme right wing. :smiley:
