Also, it might be enlightening to ask people you know for recommendations for a good doctor–friends, people you and/or he work with. And I’ve had good luck by calling 1-800-doctors. First thing they do is get the area where you live, and ask you what kind of help you’re looking for. Everyone I’ve talked to there has seemed caring, professional, and efficient. And by the way, 1-800-dentist was a good number for me, too, for finding a dentist. I don’t know how much screening they’ve done on the doctors they recommend, but they’ve at least gathered some history and I believe done some follow-up, with both patients and the doctors.
