I drive about 90 miles a day in my to/from work commute.
Why is it that most of the time the assholes are driving Mercedes? I notice it more when I’m on the motorcycle. Sharing lanes is legal here (i.e., when the traffic is backed up, motorcycles can ride between lanes). Most people don’t notice motorcyclists (they’re just passengers who happen to be in the left seat) and many will move over to let the motorcyclist through (hey, we’ll only be there for 1/2 second!). But I’ve noticed that Mercedes drivers have a tendency to crowd the line when they see a motorcycle coming. Why? The moto will get by eventually. The Mercedes (or other lane-hogging) driver gets mad, the motorcyclist is put into a dangerous situation, and the bike still gets by. We (motorcyclists) are often cold and/or wet. After a while we get saddle-sore. We have to put up with more noise than car drivers. We have to be extra-vigilant on the road. And then we have to put up with people who don’t want us near them for even half a second??? When I drive I always move over if I see a motorcycle coming. Most times I get a wave of thanks.
Why is it that most of the inconsiderate drivers I see are in Mercedes (and Volvo and Lexus cars, in that order)?
30 years ago my mom would always say" Gene,* don’t get that bad driver upset, he may shoot a gun at you* and I said to myself, oh, sure, mom…
Years later, how true her "rediculous statement* became…especially here in So. Cal.
It’s just the slow country drivers who can’t keep up that make the rest of us look bad. Otherwise it’s all one well oiled machine
“I guess one person can make a difference, although most of the time they probably shouldn’t.”
I’m with you on this one. I can’t understand why simple courtesy is something that stops the second most folks plop their butts into the driver’s seat. I have noticed in particular older guys with big cars seem to resent the hell out of the fact a woman (me) in a little car dares try and pass. I actually had a situation where the old fart looked over at me as I passed, he clamped his lips together and hit the accelerator. For safety, I dropped back and let him go, then he dropped down to 30mph in a 45 zone and there wasn’t going to be another passing zone until the next town - at which time he SPED UP AGAIN. God, what a dangerous moron.
I also do not understand people who hang out in the left hand lane on the highway and just stay there - The left lane is for PASSING. Case and point, my buddy got a ticket last Thursday for doing just that, two perfectly good lanes to his right, but he just had to stay all the way to the left. I tried not to laugh.
All you need to start an asylum is an empty room and the right kind of people.
The left lane is only reserved for passing in some states. There’s a thread on it somewhere.
