Full factory equipment

I’ve noticed that quite a few new car ads tout the car as having “FULL FACTORY EQUIPMENT” which sounds like the car is loaded with everything the factory could fit on, but turns out to mean it only has the basic standard equipment.

Anyone know where this term originates and why it’s allowed to be used when it’s so deceptive?

Well pkbites, it is a little deceptive… but my understanding is that the term “Full Factory Equipment” means that the car includes everything that is standard… but not necessarilly any options that might be available. So if there is an automatic transmission available for a particular car then if it came with a standard transmission than that would be considered “Full Factory Equipment”. If the car doesn’t come with a stick then an automatic transmission version would then be “Full Factory Equipment”. I agree it’s kind of sneaky but what do you expect from these guys… truth in advertising?

Actually, it means that all the accessories in the car were installed at the factory, and not at the dealer.
