Full Kitchen Redo

Kitchen Cabinets are finally here. Hopefully they’ll be installed today.

Currently being laid out and unpacked.

Yaay! Looking forward to pix!

About time!

I’m waiting for flooring in my basement.

What type of flooring? Something waterproof?

Naw, water resistant. Engineered hardwood. Aka, plywood with a veneer of maple.

Sounds nice, our basement is mostly just painted floor and the Game room is carpet squares. The prior owners did it and I like the oddball carpet square pattern they did.

This is what it looks like

The stuff in the room is from the online sale pictures. (Not our stuff).
We have it far more cluttered:

The very last thing that needs to be done should be completed in a few hours. There are two small chips in the granite countertop and the granite countertop repair expert is coming over.

I also am waiting for the new chairs for the dining room which should arrive next week.

I love the carpet squares. That’s fun, and would be good for a game room. I plan to host square dances in my basement, so i wanted a smooth and forgiving surface. Carpet is forgiving, but too grippy. Tile is smooth, but too hard.

We’ve lived here more than 25 years and it’s never flooded, so I’m not worried about that. We have had issues with dampness and mildew. But we’ve added a heat pump, and will be running it as an AC over the summer. I’m hoping that will alleviate the problem. And if not, we still have an excellent dehumidifier, whose only flaw is over-heating the room in the summer.

Cabinets arrive in boxes.

By noon.

Cabinets are in:

Next comes the counter measurements and then the wait for counters to be cut and delivered. Then installed and then finally the backsplash.

Somewhere along the way electrical, paint and trim will be done.

This is some form of weird self-inflicted torture.

But like whacking your head against a wall, it’ll feel soo-oo-ooo good when it’s over.

Remember, done right it goes like this:

Whack! Hundred bucks out the door!
Whack! hundred bucks out the door!
Whack! hundred bucks out the door!
Whack! …

Seriously, those are very nice looking and there’s sure plenty of them. You & the lovely and talented Ms. Exit will be very happy when it’s over done. Congrats.

Lovely! You can get a feel now for what it’s going to be like. I’m excited!

Yes, jealous of the number of cabinets! Looks great.

We worked hard on the design, I think in our smaller kitchen we’ll have as much cabinet space as our old house. Twice as much as this one did 3 months ago. Room for 4 people to work in the kitchen. So much more counter space and maybe more than our old house. We won’t be on top of each other.

The light switches (except 1) will be much better located, far more outlets. A really nice forever floor. As we get older, we have almost all drawers instead of cabinets below the counters. My sink will be next to the dishwasher and looking out the window.

Someday it will be done and it will be a massive improvement.

The floor looks really nice. And your are going to love having enough space to work.

Pajama Sam is showing how to walk on the tiles correctly.

So a lot happened today during the worst air quality day in my life.

The counter guy came and measured. Said 5-7 business days. Seemed very competent and showed up early.

The regular crew showed up early and got a lot done. Though they were in and out into the ash filled air so much. They were going to eat in their truck, I told them to eat inside, I have the AC cranked up to clean the air.

So they ran the water line for the fridge. Friday I get a new fridge and not on the living room. Hooray indeed.

The exhaust vent was run. The crown molding installed. Most of the bottom trim was put in. 4 pots lights and the fan got installed and the outlets. We have lights in the kitchen.

It lives! It lives! My creation has Life!!!

And finally we have the new fridge in the work in progress kitchen. All looks good.

Tight fit but maybe 3 inches above though. My wife was wondering if the side panel should have a low vent near the wall?

The owner’s manual for your refrigerator should have a diagram or text explaining how much gap is needed behind and on the sides to allow for sufficient venting.

Good point, I’ll check it in a little while.
