Full Kitchen Redo

BTW, plenty of people will have their refrigerators located between cabinets, so there’s no possibility of adding a side vent, so one should not be necessary.

That is almost word for word what I said to my wife. But I admitted it was worth checking.

I get my counters installed Friday afternoon. Imagine that.

The regular work crew will be back Monday.

Hopefully I’ll have some real progress by then and maybe, just maybe a kitchen sink. A kitchen sink would be glorious after 2.5 months.

We have counters.
A sink also and hoping for the plumbing Monday.

Ooo, pretty!

Yay! It’s nearly a kitchen.

Looking good!

Looks great.

If the fridge is plugged in and making cold and those backsplash outlets work and you own (or can get) a countertop microwave, you have all the kitchen a sizeable fraction of Americans need. The fridge holds drinks and restaurant leftovers in disposable containers and the microwave turns cold leftovers into hot leftovers. That and a trash can w plastic liner bags and you’re fully functional.

Anything more is just showing off.

It’s not a kitchen without water. Water and heat.

Nicely done! on the cabinets especially.

What’s the backsplash treatment you’ve chosen?

Not the best picture. The tiles are basically tealish.

Lovely.

Looks like we’re getting backsplash, installed microwave/hood and a working sink!

The backsplash already looks very good, adding some much needed color to the kitchen.

The sink will be completely awesome.

According to lore, once that’s done, everything is done.

 I wish.

Remaining things:
Tier 1) Stove, Dishwasher, knobs and handles would be the remaining big items.
Tier 2) final sanding, paint & molding
Tier 3) Shelves, light over the sink, outlet covers, drawer and door adjustments still need to get done. Floor transitions. (From tile down to wooden)
Tier 4) getting proper breakers into panel and getting the 2 outlets outside the garage powered up again.
Tier 5) Final inspection and corrections if required.

A lot got done today. 6 pictures. We’ll mostly be done tomorrow.

The backsplash came out really good. Gives the kitchen a nice splash of color it needed.

We have a sink and a dishwasher again!

I have to touch up the wooden floor a little next week. The workers didn’t do this. Pre-existing issue. The transition looks very nice though.

It’s really beautiful! I love the teal tile. It’s coming together so well – congrats on the progress!

Yay! Water and electricity. You have a kitchen.

I really like the floor. It’s understated and elegant.

I agree, I like the floor and the backsplash. It’s all coming together, very nice and very exciting.

Tres cool. Just don’t do what I did.

A few years ago we did a partial kitchen renovation which included putting granite floor tile down in the kitchen. During which time the fridge had been rolled into the adjacent dining room and plugged in for the couple of planned weeks actual months of work.

Finally the kitchen was ready to move into. We rolled the fridge in, slid it back into its snugly-fitted cubby, did various other tasks, and generally got ready to rock n roll. To celebrate, we wanted to get some nice cold bottles of microbrew out of the fridge.

I opened the fridge door and unbeknownst to me, a whole 6-pack had been dislodged in the fridge reinstallation and was leaning against the door. It all cascaded to the floor. I swear each bottle took one look at the granite-over-concrete that was about to spell its doom and simply exploded in fright a couple inches above the floor. We had beer and glass everywhere, seeping under the cabinets, under the fridge, heading towards the nearby dishwasher cavity, etc.

Professionally speaking: don’t do that. It really ruins the celebratory effect of the Grande Unveiling of your shiny new kitchen. It also stinks for weeks.
