Fundamentalist Muslim Message Board

For the same reasons an Arab merchant might have asked the same question in 1199 after seeing his family killed and his house burned by Crusaders.

Are you trying to go down the road of equalling the Crusades to 9/11?

just 9/11? Are we forgetting attacks on Christian schoolsd in Pakistan, Daniel Pearl’s murder (“I am a Jew, I am the son of a Jew”), the fatwa against Salman Rushdie for writing a book, the stifling of liberal voices within Islam… The voices of hate are drowning out the voices of tolerance right now. So, yeah, religious violanece sanctioned by the clergy, yeah I’ll say there are some similarities there.

Islam doesn’t have to be violent any more than Christianity does. Look at the Sufis, who only wish to attain perfect union with their Beloved, and who have much in common with Zen Buddhism. Look at the Cordovan emirate, when Muslim Spain served as an oasis of tolerance and humanity.

But right now, anti-Western hatred seems to be the rising sentiment in Islam, serving as a target on which unemployed, impoverished, tyrannized Muslims can vent their rage.

I rate the site as darn goofy.

The general tone is childish and the religious spin they put on things is excessive. I say that and look where I live.

Buncha goofballs.

Glad to hear it, Paul. I need reassurances that people, overall, haven’t gone completely to the dogs.

See, TwistofFate, THAT’S what I wanted–a reassuring word from someone who knows what he’s talking about.

How about the assaults on Muslims after 9/11 in the US? is that indicative of Common American feeling towards Islam?

Why bring this up? Do you think Rushdie is still living in fear of his life?

While you are right, which do you think makes better news in the west? A voice of Reason or a voice of Hate?

Not really. The Crusades (as I’m sure you know) were Church (not clergy) sponsored INVASIONS of another country. That dosent happen much anymore.

Correct. Islam dosent teach violence. Mistranslation and disinformation are leading people to believe that it does. ** On Both Sides. **

It seems to be the rising sentiment amongst thick headed idiots like the ones that popyulate the boards mentioned.

It is NOT the sentiment of the majority of Islam.

Very few such incidents occurred, far fewer than would have occurred in any other country. The overall sentiment here, in fact, was to protect the rights of Muslims and not to scapegoat them as we did the Japanese-Americans in WWII.

Those fucknuts are on trial and will be punished. No violence for religious reasons in your country, I must assume.

I think you are using erotema, not quite a pysma yet. See the “december” thread.

Canada’s national airline does. There was a big hubbub a few months ago when a directive was issued banning Rushdie from Air Canada flights. A public uproar ensued and the directive was withdrawn best as I remember it.

Er… did I just that read correctly? Guys, you must be mistaken I am not Muslim, I officially belong to the Eritrean Orthodox Church (For more info check out ‘Ask Eritrean Guy’ thread).

However, more accurately I could be described as Agnostic.

Sorry, Twisty. I’ve got to call you on this one. You can say a lot of things about America and George Bush. But one thing that is unequivocally meritorious is the instant, conscious and universal determination not to scapegoat Muslims for 9/11.

Sure, there were a few incidents, there are criminals everywhere. But Bush made it a point in his very first speech to emphasize that American Muslims were not going to be blamed, not even a little bit, for 9/11. I recall reading numerous reports where members of churches and synagogues turned out to protect mosques in the face of anonymous threats.

On the whole, considering the provocation of 9/11, the spirit of tolerance displayed by Americans was exemplary.

:smack:

I completely agree, and am very happy that the incidents were limited, but there were incidents. What I was trying to say was that using isolated incidents, regardless of how dispicable they were, does not equal what mainstream ideology is.

If you will allow me to be the Devils Advocate for a moment

** WOOO! I’m the Devils Advocate!!!**

[sub] Sorry, I always wanted to do that joke [/sub]

Please forgive me. I am having trouble trying to express my ideas on this matter into words. I’m going to think about what I want to say, and get back to you.

Violence based on religion in Ireland. Well I never

There is plenty of violence in my country based on religion, unfortunately.
but I think my point is that violence is not what the tenets of religion teaches, (or should teach, so to speak.)

Did anyone notice that (as of two days ago…I haven’t been back to check) you had to register to even browse the threads anymore?

Maybe Allah really IS watching…

This is probably why. Lileks wrote a Bleat about that board on Wednesday.
