As some of you know, The Littlest Briston has type-1 diabetes. Basically, in addition to normal parenting duties, we also have to act as her pancreas as well.
We keep very involved in the T1D support community, and she has a really good attitude about the whole thing. This weekend, we’ll be participating in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes, and we’re hoping to bring in a $500 donation. We’ve done our part, as have friends and family, now we’re passing the hat around here. Would anyone care to help out for a good cause? All the info can be found over here. Any and all help is much appreciated!
Also, if anyone has any questions regarding T1D, feel free to ask away.
(Posted with mod permission – and I did more than just ask myself.)
Every bit helps – thanks much to the both of you, and to everyone else who helped out! The couple of hours since I posted this has brought in just shy of a hundred bucks, so we’re moving along nicely – can’t thank you all enough!
I am very sorry to hear of your darling daughter’s medical condition. Diabetes is a nasty little illness but it sounds as if your little sweetie pie is doing very well. I sent a donation from the joint paypal account that I share with my husband. So if you see a donation with the initials BH rather than SH that’s me.
Leave it to the SDMB – in less than 24 hours, you’ve brought us to our goal and beyond!
Thanks so very much to everyone who helped out – we’ll certainly be posting pictures from the walk. And even though we’ve met our main goal, we’ll still be happy to give the JDRF more than our initial pledge if anyone else still wants to help out!
Just to put a cap on this, the walk went really well. All told, $560 was raised and the majority of that came from the SDMB – you guys rocked it!
I believe you have to have a facebook account to see these (even though it’s in a publicly shared folder – if you ask me, that should mean everyone should be able to see it!), but we’ve posted a bunch of photos from the event here. And for one final bit, The Littlest Briston sends along her personal message for the Dope!
That’s just fabulous. She’s a lovely little girl. We all wish her well in her fight. I’m also glad you had such lovely weather. It was the perfect fall weekend for a day outside in NJ.
