Funeral Museum to Close!

Just the place to take the kids! A fun time for all! (Don’t for get to buy a T-shirt)
Seriously, who in his right mind would visit such a place? Talk about morbid-the place gives me the creeps!

Don’t worry, Houston’s National Museum of Funeral History is still going strong. The motto: “Any day above ground is a good day.”

Although I like most museums, I haven’t made it to this one…

I would go. I guess I am a bit of a morbid person, but I wouldn’t consider everyone who visits this place as being “morbid”.

I’ve been here over 17 years, and somehow I haven’t made it to that particular museum.

Must be why it’s closing…

Bummer. I’ve been sorta kinda meaning to check the place out ever since reading about it in Andrew Ferguson’s book Land of Lincoln, and maybe buy one or two of the chocolate coffins they sell in the gift shop.
(David B! Haven’t seen you around here in a while.)

I would have liked to see the marketing study that resulted in this place being opened…lessee…demographic: teenage children, parents, retired folks…gift shop revenues: coffin candy $500,000…“event” sales (have your wedding or bar mitzvah at the Funeral Museum!
It is all too weird for me!

I would *love *to go there! ( but what’s up with the rotten ear in the photo?)

I have to admit that I love those types of niche-topic, hole-in-the-wall sorts of museums. Never was in that neighborhood, but I always try to find a museum or two like that whenever I’m visiting somewhere new…

I’ve been waiting in line to get to the Funeral Museum!

It’s been about, oh, four and a half years (it sure didn’t seem like that!). I’ve been around a bit for the past couple weeks, though, slipping in here and there.

It’s dead, Jim.

I wrote a feature article about the Houston museum a long time ago. It’s a cool place, affiliated with a school for morticians/embalmers. I don’t remember many of the exhibits, but one that has stuck with me is the three-person coffin.

I forgot that was their motto; thanks for reminding me.

So, it’s the death knell for the Funeral Museum. :frowning:
