At last count, the preliminary thread/poll at

Funniest Comedy Duos – Past and Present

had Bob and Ray dropping out of the 20% and Over group.

Since they’re losing ground here I’m wondering if we need a playoff of the top two or three.

I voted for Fry and Laurie but, as others have said, any poll without Morecambe and Wise is pretty much redundant.

I love A&C, but I have to say that they weren’t at the top of their game on their TV series. Try watching a couple of their movies, or better yet, their radio program. A lot of the references are dated, of course, but their timing is timeless.

I recently played a clip of Who’s On First for my kids (8 and 10) and they thought it was hysterical. So for timelessness I went with A&C. Although I probably should show them some Laurel and Hardy and see what they think.

Yes, I did mean *watching *their radio program. Turn your monitor off and relive the days when the family would spend the evening gathered in the living room, staring at a box with sound and no picture.

The Who’s on First episode of the radio show that I linked to above has some routines with references that are dated, but still funny. For example:

Salesman: Here’s a good bat. This bat was made for Slaughter.
Costello: Ain’tcha got one that was made for baseball?
Abbott: No, Costello. When the man says the bat was made for Slaughter, he means Slaughter the baseball player.
Costello: Slaughter the baseball player? With a bat that size, you could slaughter anybody!
Abbott: No, Slaughter is the man’s last name.
Costello: What’s his first name?
Salesman: Enos.
Costello: Now there’s a smart guy. 'E knows his own first name!
