Here’s a funny video of my budgies. Yellow-Budgie found a toy that made her go all squirly. I think it must be fun to bite because it’s all squishy. She’s still doing the same thing right now. It’s really funny to watch.
Cute!
Hee. Budgies are funny when they get a bee in their bonnet. They’re excellent entertainers.
I love budgies - we got a beautiful new one in January after our previous bird died last autumn.
I can’t see the video from here (work - but I’ll watch it later from home).
This seems a good place to ask; for those budgie-fanciers who have kept two or more birds together at the same time; have you ever succeeded in hand-taming them? It’s hard with just one bird - is it even possible with two?
I agree with this.
It is possible but way harder. I originally just had one and she was tame and enjoyed sitting on my finger or shoulder. But then I started working and knew she’d be lonely so I got another one and she’s not interested in hanging out with me anymore. The only time she’ll go on my finger now is if she gets “lost” (flies down the hall and lands on the floor) she’ll let me rescue her and bring her back to her cage.
This morning when I opened everyone’s cage, Yellow-Budgie made a beeline for the foamy toy and is flipping it all around again. She looks demented.
A funny thing we’ve observed several of our succession of budgies doing is dropping things off tables. We had a selection of small plastic toys that the birds would love to play with, including the empty plastic pods from Kinder Surprise eggs (this was back when the pods were in two separate parts )
The bird would pick up one of the halves, drag it to the edge of the table and drop it off - then watch with that comical sideways look (that actually is a stare, for animals with eyes on the sides of the head), then go and get the next piece and drop that over, until everything was on the floor.
Oh, that’s cute! I’ve always wanted a budgie. I have 2 cats, though… and I don’t think my husband could tolerate the noise. So I’ll enjoy YOUR budgies vicariously.
What are their names?
Oops, sorry! I didn’t see that there was another reply/question! I named the first one Budgie because I thought a budgie named Budgie was cute and it’s a fun word to say. Everyone ended up calling her Chirpy. I named the next one Chirpy.
With the newest two, I tried to come up with various names and first went with Banana and Green-bean. Then I changed them to Tweety and Birdy but those didn’t stick either. So their names ended up being Yellow-Budgie and Green-Budgie.
Budgie, Chirpy, Yellow-Budgie, Green-Budgie - I kind of suck at bird names.
Aww, such cuteness! My younger Quaker Parrot, Sami, does the same dance with her toys!
like this? (warning: youtube of bird on reptile cruelty)
Exactly like that. The parrot family seems fascinated/amused by gravity.
