Adridne , you make it sound like that was my original quote… <shudder> Originally posted by phatlewt’s grandma would be better, please
I think I’m going to quote Dubya. My grandmother seems to respect him, and regardless of my opinons of his politics, it’s a good and very relevant quote.
Thanks for the advice everyone. I was so mad yesterday that I threw a pack of post-it notes at my office wall I need to say something, but I don’t think I need to call my grandma an ignorant, bigoted AssHat. I’ll post what I send her.

I bet there are many times more people who have been murdered by persons claiming Catholic or Protestant or Christian superiority. The Crusades, the Inquisition, the Hundred Years War, the Irish Civil War , certain anti-abortion fanatics (not activists - fanatics - there is a difference) killing health care workers who are unlucky to be receptionists in a clinic, nutjobs who kill gays because “the Bible says it’s evil,” etc.
Eh? The Irish Civil War had nothing to do with religion in any respect.

Um…yeah…go back under your bridge.
Grandparents are funny. I like how mine introduces Dr. and Mrs. Wahington as a very nice black couple.

Maybe you could point out to Grandma how juding an entire religion from the actions of a relative few can come back to bite her in the ass. **
The Hundred Years War was fought between catholic England and catholic France. It was mostly driven by the claim that the English kings made to the French throne.
You are probably thinking of the Thirty Years War. It was fought between the catholic Habsburgs (Austria) and their allies agains the protestants of northern Germany and Sweden.
Thanks everyone… You all were very helpful in me not sending a nasty flame
I stole from several of you in my reply. Hope ya don’t mind
Phatlewt’s reply to Grandma
This is in regard to a recent email I received from you. I include the
family members who also received your email in this reply, since this is an
important message I wish to share with those whom I love.
Not all muslims are terrorists. Also, American and muslim are not mutually
exclusive terms. Many Americans practice Islam, and Muslim Americans were
among those Americans who have lost their lives in terrorist attacks on our
country.
I hear people say that our nation’s current war on terror and war on Iraq is
really a “war on Islam.” I don’t think that statement is true, but when
Americans make statements like the email you sent, I can see how someone
would think that America is attacking Islam.
Grandma, I know you respect our president, George W. Bush. I would like to
quote President Bush from a speech he made on September 20, 2001.
“I also want to speak tonight directly to Muslims throughout the world.
We respect your faith. It’s practiced freely by many millions of Americans,
and by millions more in countries that America counts as friends. Its
teachings are good and peaceful, and those who commit evil in the name of
Allah blaspheme the name of Allah. The terrorists are traitors to their own
faith, trying, in effect, to hijack Islam itself. The enemy of America is
not our many Muslim friends; it is not our many Arab friends.”
– George W. Bush
Please remember these words.
I respect your right to your own personal views, and your right to say
whatever you wish. However, I find messages of this nature hurtful and
counter-productive. You may choose to believe what you wish, but
I simply and respectfully request that you don’t include me when you send
these messages to your friends. I can’t help but see them as baseless and
hateful slander with the only intent of fostering racism and bigotry.
