We’re talking about a guy here who printed a column in the Saurday Evening Post years ago claiming that Wally Butts (UGA football Coach) & Bear Bryant (Alabama Football Coach) had fixed an NCAA football game between their respective schools. Of course, he essentially made it up, but the SEP was pretty desperate for readers at the time.
They were successfully sued for libel by both Butts & Bryant, and the lawsuit led to the demise of the paper. Somehow, Bischer went on to become a revered southern sports writer.
