Zoidberg: I’m afraid Fry’s lost a lotta juice. He’s developed Simpsons jaundice.
Fry (who has turned yellow): ¡Ay, caramba!
Later- Fry (now with a puffy face, orange skin and black stripes): Now I’ve got Garfield syndrome. I hate Mondays.
Fry: Careful, Leela. He knows less about Human anatomy than I do. And I can’t even find my own uterus!
Fry: He’s turned into some kind of Believable Hulk!
Was it me, or did the Yeti look exactly like the Mugato from ST:TOS “A Private Little War”?
The Murdolator ™ is the most awesome thing I’ve ever seen on Futurama.
Wasn’t just you - I thought the same thing while I watched it.
Loved the exchange in the real doctor’s office:
“Oh my God! Who Zoidberged you?”
“It was Zoidberg!”
I was entirely ready to hate this one because it had one thing I never like (gruesome medical mishaps) and some others I rarely like (Zoidberg episodes and softening characters who are supposed to be pathetic or unlikeable). But so help me Space Pope, I liked this one. I liked it so much from act two that I can tolerate the beginning. They gave Zoidberg some dignity and competence without taking away his essential Zoidbergness, which was really tricky, and they gave a good explanation of why the Professor kept him around all these years. Farnsworth has rarely been nice to Zoidberg in the past - “with my last breath I curse Zoidberg!” - but this season in particular they’ve had a bond, and now we know where that comes from. It deepened my views of the characters, even Mom, without rewriting who they are.
Plus now we know Mom’s name is Carol.
The start of the episode was pretty weak, but when it got to the point of Zoidberg trying to kill the Prof it was brilliant. Someone animated, or programmed, all those falling ping pong balls; nice work.
However, did anyone else notice the Professor eating the salad? The salad was chopped up by the blades on the Murdolator; two of which, by that point, had cyanide on them. Kinda taking his life in his hands, there.
I liked the fact that it was clearly based on this retro toy.
They ran the bone vampire episode immediately prior and there was one exchange I missed the first time I watched it.
Leela: Fry, you don’t have to do this!
Fry: No! I can’t let my gigantic de-boner near you!
“Not surprising enough!”
Though pretty good overall.
I enjoyed it very much. I always liked Zoidberg and I loved that they gave him a little dignity with this episode.
Agreed that the Murdolater is one of the best things ever.
Definitely one of the best of this season, a far cry better than the craptacular previous episode “Fry am the Egg Man”, FatEM had a few good gags and old references, the Amazonians, and such but overall I don’t think I cracked a smile once, something felt like it was missing
TTotZ, was a great episode, had a lot of decent gags, nice to find out Mom’s first name, and it nicely filled out some of Zoidberg’s backstory, as well as gave him some much needed dignity
Then again, I’ve always considered Zoidberg one of my favorite characters, and enjoy most Zoidberg centered episodes (except for the Harold Zoid episode…)
That said, one of the appeals of Zoidberg is that he is an unwilling outsider, he desperately WANTS to be liked and have freinds, it’s just that luck, his incompetence, and Decapodaphobia seem to work against him, if they make him too popular, it’ll destroy some of the character’s endearing charm
Possibly my favorite episode since the original Fox run. Good character development, lots of twists and turns, great visuals, and some fantastic, complicated humor.
The backstory exploration was fun, and it felt pretty organic given what’s been established already.
“Double yeti” has to be one of my new favorite phrases.
