Future Cult Classics

I just wondering what recent movies (lets, for arguements sake, say movies made within the last five years) will eventually end up as cult classics.

I think

Election
Drop Dead Gorgeous
Gosford Park

will all end up being cult classics, they all have the dialogue, humour, and plot to really become one.

What does everybody else think?

Donnie Darko. It’s already begun to appear in midnight showings, like Eraserhead.

Battlefield Earth. It’s like Plan 9 with a multi-million dollar budget!

SLC Punk

Dude, Where’s My Car? - Although I don’t think it deserves it.

Dark City

No. Too terrible for words. Tries too hard. Plus advertised too mainstream for cult status.
Donnie Darko has acheived cult status, and Equilibrium looks like it is on the same road.

On the foreign front, Battle Royale already is, ditto Shaolin Soccer (but may go mainstream after the release here), And probably My Sassy Girl.

Ghost World (and its upcoming followup, Art School Confidential)

Time may enhance the reputation of Really Bad Things.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

(I just sent an ex boyfriend a copy of the soundtrack and he thought it was “weird.” harrumph.)

The last five years… hmm…

The Blair Witch Project.

The Big Lebowski is already.

Starship Troopers
Showgirls
Last Action Hero
Ishtar
The Hidden

^^^some of my favorite films, largely misunderstood by critics, but each with a strong cult following.

May.

Trust me.

Just watched May the other day; I totally agree.

Donnie darko.
