G.I. Joe: War Criminal

Sux0r. That does somewhat annoy me, but nowhere near as much as the tv commercial for “Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell”. (You’re this “black ops” guy). Couldn’t find a transcript, but it goes:

etc. I think the version I see on TV is even worse. Every time I see it, (and I know most people here are American, and I like most all of you, so don’t take it personally), the phrase “fucking arrogant bastards” goes through my head.

P.S. to RexDart: I totally disagree with you. Isn’t the point of war to fuck people over? I personally happen to like the Geneva Convention. How about article 12: Don’t shoot medical units? The definition and protection of non-combatants? It’s basically a “if you cheat the written rules, we’ll get you” deal. And you’re “responsible” to the entire world. My take on it is it’s meant to protect the poor bastard stuck in the middle.

Does it at all matter that Cobra, although an organized and uniformed force, is not the military of a soverign nation, but a trans-national criminal/terrorist organization?

No, because it’s the US doing it, and of course, anything America does is bad.

I disagree. That’s why the War Criminal G.I. Joe bothers me so much.

Hey, they raised Cobra Island, and got UN recognition in the comics. (i have no clue what happened after that.) GI Joe suffured from “the Villians are cooler” syndrome (not nearly as bad as He-Man, but close), with Roadblock, Gung Ho, Snake Eyes, Bazooka, Shipwreck, and Scarlette being the only cool heros, while Cobra had dozens of cool villians (Cobra Commander, Dr. Mindbender, The Baroness, Destro, those twins, Storm Shadow, Zartan, that gang Zartan had, the concept of Serpentor (who was sadly lame)). GI Joe just can’t compare.

C’mon. Low-Light freaks people out, man.

I know Tunnel Rat the toy was based on Larry Hama’s facial features; I meant that – as I recalled – Tunnel Rat the character was supposed to be Hispanic.

As it turns out, according to Tunnel Rat’s character profile, ol’ T.R. is “Trinidian Chinese with branches of Irish, Spanish, and Indian thrown in.” Not sure if “Spanish” counts as “Hispanic” or not, though AFAIK Larry Hama has Japanese roots, so the character’s profile doesn’t seem to be based on him.

(What am I doing here? I’m supposed to quibble on Transformers trivia, for Primus’ sake…)

It’s all related, thanks to Dashell and his lady-love.
