Gaiman's "American Gods" free to read online

Hi, all. Harper Collins has put Neil Gaiman’s “American Gods” online, free to read for the next month or so. Here’s the link: http://browseinside.harpercollins.com/index.aspx?isbn13=9780060558123&WT.mc_id=author_AmerGods_FullAccess_022208

It would be cooler if they were just giving out PDFs, of course - but hey, it’s free. And it’s a good read. Enjoy!

Thanks, I will. Though this now makes a mockery of my March reading list on the other thread.

I just want to say that I highly recommend this book, especially since it’s free.

I found it to be rather dull myself.

I found it dull the first time I tried to read it, but once I tried again, I was fascinated. I also loved the sequel - Anansazi Boys.

I used to work at Point Park, which is right on the tip of Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga. Just a hop down the ridge from Rock City.

Yeah, that’s all I got. I didn’t really like the book, but I used to hike all over the place where the climax of the book happened. Gorgeous country, and a hell of a place to get paid to romp.

I actually liked the sequel better, but American Gods was a good read - especially yes - the second time.

I thought the book was a con job - just plain stupid. Set up with a compelling story but absolutely no delivery - like Stephen King at his worst.

Having said that - the writing from sentence to sentence is decent and if it is free…

Anansi Boys, and I wouldn’t really call it a sequel, although it seems to exist in the same universe: there is a sequel novella featuring Shadow, titled “Monarch Of The Glen” in his short story collection Fragile Things. I liked American Gods much more than I did the irritating middle-class English Douglas Adamsish whimsy of his earlier stuff like Neverwhere - which also marred the first half of Anansi Boys - had been replaced with something altogether darker and and more sombre.
