Gambray? Something a co-worker has.

We’ve had a missing co-worker for some time and someone in the office just talked to her and is reporting back that that she has something called “gambray”. I’ve tried several different spellings and Google isn’t giving me anything.

Apparently she felt like she had a pulled muscle in her back, but went to the doctor and it turned out to be whatever this is, and it’s very serious. She has therapy every day and spent many days in the hospital before being released. She’s also not allowed to have contact with anyone who has a cold as this can make her recovery much worse. This seems to be something that has a very, very long recovery period. I’m sure that the name of whatever this is went through a game of “telephone”, but can anyone assist with figuring out what this may be?

guillain barre ?

Aaaaand with that **Beowulff **makes it onto the Dopers I Owe A Beer list.

That’s exactly it. Thanks!

You’re welcome.

Sounds horrid, I hope they do make a full recovery!

Horrid indeed, this sounds more like something from an episode of House than something that someone you know in real life would come down with. The poor dear, I do hope that she makes a full recovery as well.

Welcome to the Club Of People Who Know Someone Who Has Something From House MD!

Its a very select club.

I also have a coworker with Guillan Barre - ascending paralysis. She thought it was just a bum leg.

Not so rare, I’ve seen a few cases in my career.

Hey! How do I get on that list?

Done.

I started a thread not long ago, because the wiki suggests there is strong evidence that FDR did not have polio, but had Guillan Barre syndrome. The reference looks pretty legitamate, but I’m not an MD. That’s why I asked here.

My dad had it, and was in the ICU for awhile with another patient who had it. In Boston, I think. He had months of rehab recovering from it.
