Shut up. Seriously, all of you assholes who want to try to threadshit and throw tantrums because you don’t like the rules, just shut up or leave the thread. You are being extremely childish. You are the reason that there is conflict, and you cause it deliberately.
The show airs in about 24 hours. From here on out, no discussion about thread rules or spoilers or anything like that. Discuss the show. If you have issues to discuss regarding the rules or nature of the thread, take it to ATMB.
Sorry if that was overly harsh in tone for the forum, but seriously - if we didn’t have people deliberately trying to create problems in these threads, they’d be reduced by about 80%.
Anyway, I went ahead and created a thread specifically to discuss the rules and moderation of these threads.. If you have an issue with the rules or nature of these threads, bring it up there. If you believe someone has violated a rule, use the “report this post” button. From here on out, this thread is only for the discussion of the show. No arguments about the actual threads themselves.
We’re all excited to have the show back. We’d all like to discuss it together. And since there are active spoiler threads, no one is being kept from discussing what they want to discuss. So let’s not ruin that with bickering and trolling, please.
SenorBeef, this is indeed out of line for this forum. Yes, I saw your apology posted briefly after, so I’m not going to issue a warning for this post, but please use the Report function and give the moderators time to deal with any situations that crop up.
The look on Cersei’s face after she slapped Joffrey was a masterful acting job. A combination of fear that she’s about to be the subject of Joffrey’s rage, and the realization that she has lost control in so many ways. All summed up in a one second facial expression. Really great stuff.
CGI direwolves are sweet. Loved the Robb/Jaime scene. I was worried they’d look fake or that it wouldn’t look like people were having natural reactions to them, because they were green-screened in, but it was awesome.
Taking the rest of my observations to the spoiler thread.
Agreed. I also liked seeing that some of Joffrey’s guards were not at all onboard with the slaughter of Baratheon’s bastards. A more careless director would’ve made them all mindless minions. Little subtleties like that really make the show for me.
I have to give credit to the kid who plays Joffrey - what a perfect little tyrant shit. I speculated last year (I think it was me, anyway) that when they did the casting for him, they found the douchiest kid they could find and told him he was going to be the star of the show.
It seemed somewhat out of character for Baelish to threaten to queen so brazenly - he does similar things to Varys and others, but he has to know that, especially during the turmoil, the queen isn’t going to take it. I suppose his ego as the keeper of secrets got in the way.
It’s interesting that Renly apparently raised 100,000 troops, when he has no real legitimate claim on the throne at all. The rightful claimant is Stannis, or depending on their rules of succession, one of the bastard kids. There’s no way you could end up with Renly. On the other hand, he does seem like he’d be the best of the bunch.
So what’s the consensus speculation about what went on in the Stanis camp? My own interpretation was that the old guy attempted a kamikaze poisoning of “Rasputina” but she somehow knew and turned the tables.
But she knew he was going to poison her, what kind of poison, and she was immune to that poison? Or do her mystical powers just render her impervious/immortal? Why did the old guy drink first? (You’d think he’d at least try to get her to go first.)
Did I miss something and/or have this whole scene all wrong? (a distinct possibility)
No, you interpreted it correctly. He probably drank first because that was probably part of the ritual/customs (the party making amends drinks first), or he knew they’d be suspicious and he wanted to get that out of the way first, willing to sacrifice himself.
It’s implied that she survived because of her holy/mystic/religious powers, that the new god protected her, I think, but it’s possible she knew the attempt was coming and took an antidote. Of course, if there was an antidote, that raises the question about why he didn’t secure it himself. I guess for a fast-acting poison like that, he’d be killed by Stannis anyway, since it would be obvious what happened.
So “Rasputina” is one powerful chick. (Does she have a name, yet?)
My broad and leaping speculation: Due to her powerful and interesting nature, she’s a perfect opponent to Daenerys and her dragons when they’re grown. And that means it’s likely Stannis who is ultimately successful in his claim to the (at least, Southern) throne.
Who else in Westeros could have the powers to go against Dany’s dragons? I guess the Starks have their wolves, but I don’t see that cutting it against friggin’ dragons!
He is good- my partner can’t hardly watch him because he makes his skin crawl. Personally, I think he’s the reincarnation of Nellie Olsen. Put some blonde curls on him and they could be twins.
Great start - loved the bit from Tyrion about Cersei being the “disappointing child”.
