Game of Thrones 2.01 "The North Remembers" 4/1 - ZERO SPOILER Discussion Thread

Yeah, I noticed at times that some of the more attractive female characters … and several male characters … were completely lacking in costumes …

When Tyrion said, “if I could talk father into things, I would be Emperor of the World” … foreshadowing?

Were the names of the northern lords who were at audience with Bran mentioned at all?

I don’t think they were mentioned in the episode, no. And I can’t tell you their names, or the name of the red woman either. Maybe if someone has a screencap or something of the credits; the names might be listed there.

Did something happen to the guy who play’s Littlefinger’s mouth over the hiatus? Because in that scene where Cersei shows him who is really boss it seemed a little. . . off. Perhaps it’s just what happens when you spend a lot of time in King’s Landing and not have a family member’s head chopped off, you mouth twists into a permanent sneering smirk.

I don’t know about Aiden Gillan’s mouth, but the tone of his voice sounded different to me. At first I thought his dialogue was dubbed in. Then I thought maybe he had a cold. But since you noticed something about his mouth, maybe it was recent oral surgery or something. He does smirk a lot though.

I don’t think so. They appeared to be less important lords–the ones with Robb are the bannermen likely to have names.

HBO has a site for the show with lots of information. Not that there isn’t stuff all over the 'net–but HBO is probably staying spoiler-free…

I was horrified at that scene, but this made me laugh out loud.

I thought I was the only one who noticed this. There was something different about the way he was speaking this season compared to last season but I couldn’t put my finger on it. His speech sounded weird.

FWIW, rewatching season 1 recently, Baelish has always had a weird way of speaking, both in terms of timing and facial expressions. Not sure if it’s a weird/bad actor, or if that’s designed into the character.

Someone remind me, was Stannis in the last season at all? For some reason I thought Stannis was the head bodyguard for the king. What was his name again?

Jaime Lannister served as the king’s bodyguard - probably as a way to piss him off, having to guard the king while he whored.

Stannis never made an appearance last season, but he was mentioned - when Ned Stark was trying to make his moves to get control of the city, he sent a letter by courier to Stannis informing him that he was the rightful heir and that he needed to return to the city.

Not Jaime, who was the old guy was basically the head of the king’s guards. The one forced into retirement.

Sir Barriston, I think his name was. I’m not sure exactly what his function was, but he seemed like he was basically head knight. I guess maybe he was head of the kingsguard.

Ser Barristan Selmy was Lord Commander of the Kingsguard. I guess he does look kind of like Stannis.

Selmy is much older though, but yeah I do see the similarity.

Speaking of similar-looking actors, did anybody else think that the Lannister cousin who was going to be sent back with Robb’s terms for peace looked a lot like Robert’s armorer bastard son?

Speaking about what we knew of Stannis from last season, what *did *we know about Stannis from last season?

I somewhat recall an offhand comment to the effect that Stannis was “off the reservation” probably due to following that chick and her Lord of Light (LoL), but I don’t remember any details or relevant commentary.

So, can someone fill me in on all the scuttlebutt about Stannis from last season. Thanks!

When Renly talked to Ned, he tried to make a case that Stannis wasn’t a good leader - that he was too harsh, the people didn’t love him, that he wouldn’t make a good king. But Ned pointed out that he was a successful military commander, and of course, the rightful heir.

I didn’t, but that’s probably because I’d just finished watching S1, so Gendry was clear in my head.
