Game show - "America Asks"

My wife happened to be watching a game show called America Asks so I watched it for a bit. I’m not sure if it is current or in syndication.

Anyway, it is a blatant copy of Family Feud. The only difference I saw in the basic play is the answers the players are trying to guess have their initials listed to help out. The host is, well, bland. I know it would be hard to find someone with the wit of the legendary Richard Dawson or the eye-rolling Steve Harvey but this guy is dull and repeats himself too often when asking for the next guess, “So you are going with…” Dawson could wring more drama out of a long pause then Bob Hope. If this host tried it he would look like he was asleep.

I thought it was sad. That’s all. With my luck it will be Beck’s favorite show.

I couldn’t find information on an “America Asks,” but I do see that there’s a show on Game Show Network called “America Says” – is that it?

For what it’s worth, it looks like it was created specifically for GSN, and was in production from 2018-22. But, as GSN owns it, they’ll probably run the old episodes for the next 75 years.

The Mexican version was Cien Mexicanos Dijeron, but it was a pretty direct copy of Family Feud. Also, the host was funny and cute!

Not!!
I’ve seen a bit of it waiting on Cash cab.
Now that is a game show!!

You are right the host is a Dud.

Aww, I kinda like John Michael Higgins. I didn’t at first–he reminded me of a shyster used-car salesman. But we watch a lot of Game Show Channel stuff as filler TV, and he’s grown on me over the years. He’s bland and inoffensive, but he strikes me as a genuinely nice guy who’s having fun with what he’s doing. He also hosts another show called “Split Second” on the same network.

For me, the poster boy for bland game-show hosts has to be Mario Lopez. He has a show of his own now (I can’t remember the name of it–it was terrible) and I couldn’t even get through a single episode. Dull as dishwater.

Try to find the show “Funny You Should Ask”, it’s just like the old Hollywood Squares with 1/3 less “celebrities” and without the strategery of Tic-Tac-Toe

John Michael Higgins is most familiar to me as one of Christopher Guest’s stock company of actors in his various “mockumentary” films. Higgins was in Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, and For Your Consideration. He’s also done a lot of voice over work. Most of his characters do tend to be on the smarmy side, but in the role of game show host I think that he himself is pleasant enough.

Huh! I never knew that about him! I did see him in an episode of CSI (the original one, which we watch a lot in reruns) but I’ve never seen him in anything else that wasn’t a game show.

He was also perfectly cast as the clueless newscaster Chuck Pierce on Great News.
