Game shows past and present...

I’m trying to remember the name of a game show I watched as a kid.

Basically, if I remember correctly, it was a puzzle that 3? people tried to uncover pieces of, square by square. Under that puzzle was a series of pictures that made up a phrase. For example: A picture of someone’s face and then a picture of a book would be Facebook, but the phrase would be much longer.

What was the name of that show?

Also, what game shows would you like brought back?

New versions of shows tend to lose their luster, usually with D-list celebrities, but i’d like to see a Name That Tune brought back in some form.

I’m pretty sure that was “Concentration”

I believe that was it. That last run would be around the time I was watching.

It was Concentration. It was only a 2 player game. Have a look at an old show.

I don’t want any old shows remade, I want GSN to show actual old shows. Watching old Family Feuds with Richard Dawson is a hoot, the modern version is unwatchable. Ditto for the Newlywed Game.

I would agree - I loved watching old Let’s Make A Deal shows (they briefly aired them a few years ago) with those godawful prizes - shag carpets, ugly kitchen appliances, 24" color TV’s back before they even had remote controls, 8 track stereos, fashion shoes and coats that made Aunt Bea in Mayberry look chic in comparison. Plus it was fun to see the brand new cars - with prices like $2,145 or something ridiculously cheap for today’s standards. Yet, back then those color TV’s were ridiculously expensive for that time.

My favorite was a fridge that had a built in 8 track stereo/radio on the front panel of the fridge! Wonder why that idea never caught on?

I wish GSN showed more of those old shows along with the old commercials that aired with them, that’d be great! I’d never leave the house.

GSN used to be a lot closer to that ideal (minus the old commercials), but then like all networks, they decayed into the rotting pile of crap that it is now.

Kind of like TVLand…

Yeah, sort of. At least TVLand still shows Andy Griffith once in a while, but its own shows (which it must make more money on) like Hot in Cleveland are pitiful. Not sure why they can make more making their own schlock than by buying rights to good older shows.

Hey! We like HiC! The airwaves can never have too much of Valerie Bertinelli’s boobs.

A similar game in the UK was called Catchphrase, and it gave us this most hilarious puzzle

SFW, but just try and keep your mind out of the gutter

That was it. The word you are looking for is rebus - under the squares was a rebus which had to be solved.

I had the home game as a kid.
