Gaozaixin

What are alternative spellings for Gaozaixin?

For what is Gaozaixin known?

Gee, I’ve never played Charades on a message board before. Three (four?) syllables, sounds like…?

Can you give us a hint? Medicine? Syndrome? Province in China? New exercise method, like Pilates or Tai Chi? Breed of dog? Cuisine?

The beautiful and talented ZenCarrot has been in the Jiangsu region of China for the last half year. She shipped to me some wonderful presents for my birthday, including a bamboo leaf with a drawing of some traditional houses around a lake, and some text in Chinese characters below the drawing. The leaf is mounted on a card, and the back of the card is filled with Chinese characters, but concluding in English with “SYNOPSIS OF GAOZAIXIN’S WRITING AND PAINTING ON THE LEAF.”

ZenCarrot does not know that the text says, and she shipped it to me without asking anyone to translate it first, so now I have this really pretty little mystery to puzzle over.

I came up dry on a net search for Gaozaixin and some alternate spellings which I guessed at. I’d like to learn more, so I thought I’d put Gaozaixin out to the Boards to see if anyone has some insights. My guess is that if someone can come up with the right alternate spelling, it might be possible to dig out some information on the net.

I have a friend who is Chinese woodcarver, so when we meet in April I’ll show it to him to see what he thinks.

Jeepers. I think this must win some sort of prize for “most esoteric General Question ever”.

It has occurred to you, of course, that Gaozaixin may merely be some local artist, the Chinese equivalent of the semi-professional artists here in Downstate Illinois who have their work proudly hung in places like the lobby of the public library?

Well.

Good luck with your quest.

Try Gao Zaixin. Each name will generate hits on Google including Chinese web pages, but I couldn’t get a hit for “Gao Zaixin”

Either I am missing something or… I am missing something.

Sounds to me like this refers to a person by the name of Gao Zaixin (Gao would be the surname which the Chinese put first and Zai-xin the given names). Maybe some local writer and painter.

Well, I’d suggest asking ZenCarrot. I asked the China Wife and Gao Zaixin is not an obviously famous painter. But remember, there are thousands of famous painters depending on how many dynasties you go back.

If this is a famous historical painter, then the romanization might be Kaotsaishin or some other horrific thing.

Perhaps he is a Jiangsu painter. Where is ZenCarrot? Suzhou? Or some obscure village with a few million people?

Taizhou, Jiangsu, PRC. She’s moving to South Korea any day now, so I doubt if she will be able to get a translation before departing.
