I was wondering if any Dopers out there had any advice regarding buying garage door openers. What are the advantages and disadvantages of chain drive, belt drive, and screw drive openers? Are there any brands out there that I should look for or avoid?
The door is heavy (appears to be made of wood), two cars wide, and 7 ft. tall.
I also think that I’d like one of those keypads so that I can open and close the door from the outside (we do a lot of biking, and I don’t think I’ll want to be carrying a garage door opener around with me.)
Are there any other sources of garage door information out there? I plan on reading the recent Consumer Reports article at the library soon, but, other than that, the only information out there seems to be from people selling the things, and they aren’t really good at explaining the differences.
