Hi, all. I’m thinking of getting a new bike - mostly for road riding, but a bit on dirt trails. I tried out a Gary Fisher Utopia (2009) today, and it seemed like a decent ride - anything I should know about these bikes? Any known problems with the model?
Personally I’d prefer a rigid bike for riding on the road / light trail use, at this price point. The suspension fork is low end and I wouldn’t get on with it. That’s probably the main decision to be made - do you prefer the ride with that front-sus or would you rather a rigid model. If you like the feel of having some suspension up front then go for it.
Hopefully someone will post here who owns a Utopia - if not, try the Gary Fisher sub forum on mtbreview. If you post up there you’ll probably get a goodly number of responses from guys who’ve ridden one.
If you’re looking for an alternative hybrid to try for comparison, look at a rigid Cannondale bad boy - superb bike. I’m in the UK, though, so don’t know how it stacks up pricewise, there’s a lot of variations with component spec.
