I do the New York Times crossword puzzle on the Seattle Times site, a few weeks behind the publication in the Times. The one for today (or a few weeks back originally) is credited to “Gary Larson and Amy Ensz / Will Shortz”. Well, Will Shortz is basically just a brand name any more; the other two names would be the actual creators. But is that the Gary Larson? Of the Far Side?
No:
GL: I am not “that” Gary Larson. I remember when I first started working as a comedian, I got a fortune cookie that read, “Your name will be famous in the future.” I put that fortune in my wallet and saved it. A few years later, when my name got famous without me, I took it out and burned it.
Also, FYI, the puzzle originally appeared in the New York Times on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
Hm, so a five-week delay, then. A bit longer than I thought, but no matter, it’s still a new puzzle every day for me.
Your link is broken for me.
This might work: Interview with Gary Larson.
Yeah, that’s it. The Discourse OneBox screwed up the semicolons somehow. Weirdly, the link preview still looks right.
What’s a nine letter word for the spikes on the tail of a stegosaurus?
Poor Thag Simmons. At least he was immortalized.
It url-encoded them when it shouldn’t have.
Thanks for the fix! And now we know who Amy is.
I’m not really one for crosswords so I know nothing about this topic, but that was a very wholesome read.
