Where can I get plans for modern-day gas station canopies (the modern squared-off types, where 2 or 4 vertical columns from the pump area support 2 cross beams, to which are attached several underhanging stringers[?] that the panels are then attached to).
My google search turned up dozens of zoning requests (a possible idea, but I rather not deal with red-tape of town planning board requests), but not really what I had hoped for.
So, does anyone know of any good sources?
[OK, OK, it’s for a model diorama [no laughing, please!], so I really can’t justify spending more than a buck or two if it’s not available on the web]
It sounds like you know exactly how they are constructed. Above the canopy, the support poles have an I-beam running between them. Angle iron runs between the I-beams, and thin sheetmetal is screwed all around. The whole thing sways quite a bit when you walk on it.
They can’t afford the solar panels because they have to pay for costly oil spill clean-ups.
Sir Ray,
The design firm I work for did some work for Tesoro. We built a mock up of a gas station for a trade show of theirs. I’ll dig through the files on Monday and see what I can find.
Thanks wishbone.
Well [excitableboy], I more or less know in general how they are constructed, but it would be nice if I could get more detail (such as type of girders - I, L, Ts, dimensions of said girder, even a layout of the fire suppression system (which often occupy the top, and may preclude the installation of the solar panels suggested by Homer).
And of course, we all know from this board the best way to clean oil-spills in the ‘forecourt’ is to use kerosene, so that seems pretty cheap (OK, never mind).
