I am mercifully free of doubts as to Cecil’s infallibility … However, I can hardly imagine that the technical capabilities of vehicles, as well as the qualities of organic gasoline substitutes, have not changed in the last eighteen years. Perhaps this column needs an update?
AFAIK, virtually every vechicle regularly available in the US that is supposed to run on gasoline is fully compliant(supposedly) with 90/10 ethanol and its been that way for years. There are several million vechicles that can run of E85, 15% gasoline.
I know nothing about methanol.
Given that I drive a 1987 vehicle, I consider the column sufficiently up-to-date and quite useful.

You oughtta read the MSDS sheet on ethanol sometime. Scary stuff. I had to brace myself with a coupla drinks.
Just a minor nitpick: it should be “read the MSDS” or the “MSD Sheet.” Otherwise you will have people reading the material safety data sheet sheet. Possibly after using the automatic teller machine machine.
