Gasoline prices and Trump

I live in the Chicago area, where gasoline prices are typically higher than the US median. Prices recently have declined significantly.

However I haven’t heard anything about Trump claiming credit for the price decline. I suppose it’s possible he has just about broken his arm patting himself on the back but the news media isn’t reporting it, but I find that hard to believe.

So what gives? I know it’s likely gasoline prices will go back up in the near future, but that’s never stopped him before. Why isn’t he taking a victory lap over gasoline prices?

In my experience, gas prices typically drop after Labor Day when summer driving slows down. The price of oil is also currently at $62 a barrel, which doesn’t hurt. Why Trump isn’t claiming credit for it is because lowering gas prices won’t get him a Nobel Peace Prize.

I was just thinking the opposite :“why the hell am I paying $5+?” Mostly rhetorical question, as everything is more expensive here (SoCal) and a big part of gas prices is the tax. But when Dumbass was lying about gas being $3 a gallon I thought, “yeah, maybe at that one station in Cousinbugger, AL”.

That could be a big part of it.

His politics are based on grievance. So his inflation message now is that beef is high, and he is going to import more from Argentina to keep prices down. Of course, he doesn’t literally import more, but it sounds powerful.

Gas in my rural western PA location has stayed constant at $3.46/gallon.
I mean that price has not changed all year at my local BP.

It is very odd. Something doesn’t seem right/it’s always been widely variable the last 5 years.

I was surprised that I was able to get gas for $2.95/gallon in New York state near Poughkeepsie last week.

Virginia gas was around $2.90/$3.00 per gallon when I went there a couple months ago.

In September I paid around $5.00/gallon in the Seattle area.
