I napped. Tonight’s dinner was chicken burritos with rice, refried beans, and homemade salsa. And a Manhattan. In sadder news, ICE was prowling around the apartments behind my Aldi, and my hockey friend Cathi pass away today.
{{{{Nettie and Bob}}}}
This, because the first three are my ingredients for my applesauce.
HA! He’ll just tell me that it’s not quite right and maybe I should try again.
I put chocolate chips in my last batch and he suggested chocolate syrup next time. I’ve never used either before, but if it’s chocolate, its all good.
That was the most frustrating part. Not only was he wasting all of our time, he was costing the taxpayers good money.
We did complain to the judge but he acted as though his hands were tied.
The thing that bothered me the most is that we all agreed that the defendant was guilty, but that was after seeing all of the evidence and thinking about it.
I did think about you today. We were at lunch and a “Sovereign Citizen” was at the next table. He was advising his friend that he didn’t need to pay for a lawyer, all he had to do was tell the judge that he demanded to face his accuser in court. When the judge couldn’t put the STATE of WV in the stand, the judge would be forced to dismiss the case. Its in the constitution!
When I worked for the county, I talked to judges and court clerks on a regular basis. All of them would have been hard pressed to not pee their pants laughing at such a claim, and I knew it would give you a chuckle as well.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 2c/36f with a predicted high of 3c/38f and cloudy. Weather app says “Someone obviously fucking pissed off Mother Nature. It was probably fucking Father Time.” It’s definitely getting much colder here - I don’t mind the chill in the air, I do mind the fact that public transport seems to be run by the lizard people who are insisting that buses and trains should boil their passengers.
I bet she was excited about that, especially after the collarbone injury. I’m glad she’s recovered well and is ready to get back to being a typical kid.
I hope all goes well and she gets the go-ahead for surgery. Sounds like it will be a big relief for her when it’s done.
{{{{{Sensei}}}}} feel better soon!
My favourite band in the whole entire world announced a pre-order for their new CD which comes out next March. The cloudfare issues prevented most of us from putting our orders in until late last night. There was much angst on their fan page!
We had a full set of fireside tools including some very fancy toasting forks! We had coal fires in the house when I was a kid, and I think I was around 10 years old before we had central heating installed so we were well used to toasting things over an open flame. And throwing banana skins on the fire to hear them “sing”.
Sorry, that’s my fault - he was expecting it to be a short case because that was the expectation around all the other cases that had jury selection in the first week. He then got picked for something that went on much longer, I’m not sure if he was able to tell the Uni exactly how long it was going to be. Anyway, our ridiculous HR policies meant that they couldn’t get temporary cover for his post so it did cause a lot of problems for us.
I am so sorry for your loss, she was a beautiful lady. I am glad you got to spend time with her and remind her how much she was loved too, that is the best kind of goodbye.
Hurrah! There’s something extra special about coming home to chocolate on the doorstep!
Yesterday turned into something of a shitshow at work, sadly I missed most of it because I was taking minutes in a very boring departmental meeting. There were some issues with two language tests that took place in the afternoon, one of them involved a student who got very angry and started banging the walls because he was told he couldn’t take the test (won’t go into details, but he’s been troublesome in the past) so that’s now got to be properly investigated. There was also a problem (apparently) with a word on the test paper either missing, or being wrong. More stuff for me to deal with today.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 49 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 82 and sunny. We shall procure provisions this mornin’. The goal is to procure enough to get us through the next two weeks plus stuff needed for Turkey Day. We do not want to deal with the great unwashed in the grocery store the week of Turkey Day. We will be our RDOS sloth selves this afternoon. Wednesday night doin’s over to the church house will take care of sup.
BooFae sounds like that stoodint had a hissy fit. Can’t describe exactly what a hissy fit is, but I know one when I see one.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, I must purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed.
Yeah - I’m not interested in a reunion. It’s just idle curiosity along the lines of “I wonder what happened with…?” It’s not like we were besties. They’re just people I knew back in the late 70s.
FCD would tell a story about something Daughter did as a toddler, but I know it was actually a story I told him about a coworker’s kid. No matter these days - he’s forgotten and it wasn’t that big a deal to anyone but us.
Last night, Ziva came out again while Otis was crashed on the living room floor. She was sitting at the living room end of the hall when I wanted him to head to his crate (in FCD’s office at the other end of the hall.)
He got up, took a few steps, saw the cat, and froze. She hissed. I tried to take his collar and lead him back but he wouldn’t move. She casually moseyed back to out bedroom but Otis still wouldn’t follow me. FCD had to get out of his recliner and lead that goofy dog back to his crate while Ziva sat just inside our bedroom, not at all pleased at the goings-on.
So, yeah, 60-some pounds of wolfhound cowering before a 17-y/o pile of fluff and claws, not knowing that if he’d approached her, she’d have bolted for her safe space under our bed.
It is interesting how cats and dogs work out their hierarchy.
Theoretically, the only things I’ll need to get are fresh broccoli and some generic cool whip. Unless I think of something else… This week, however, Food Lion has bottles of Coke products at 4/$12, so I’m gonna get 8. I’m down to my last 8, and we can’t be running out. I hope they put the A&W on sale soon - FCD is almost out and it’s his caffeine-free choice in the evenings.
Today will be hand-sand the doors and get the first coat of Cetol on them, as well as the bottom of the platform. We also need to strip and sand the forward hatch, which FCD intends to fancy up into a butterfly hatch. The one on our boat is about half the size of the one linked, but it’ll be the same idea. Right now, the hatch is just a square teak frame with a sheet of white plexiglass over it. Not particularly pretty.
A few months back, I listed an old leather chair and stool on FB Marketplace for $60. It was a gift to FCD over 35 years ago, but now it’s consigned to the basement - nothing wrong with it - we just no longer want it. I offered it to the son of a friend, but it was declined.
Last night, a woman contacted me and offered me $40 for it, so why not? Then she told me she’d be in my are today and she’d text me when she was close. Not asked, told. Even if she’d asked, I’d decline, since we’ll be in the shop doing grubby work most of the day. I got no response to that - we shall see what happens next.
Speaking of last night, it appears we got a good bit of rain - the rain gauge puddle in the driveway is pretty big. So yay for rain - I won’t have to water the landscaping today. Or tomorrow. One less chore.
Good morning all. Up around 6:30am which breaks with my sleeping in late habit the last few days. Outside of hauling the trash and recycle bins to the curb this evening, nothing else of great import is on the agenda. Temperature is supposed to reach 75F today, so another day that the Heater gets to take off in November.
doggio, happy stomach and sad news…
Wise is the ways of JtC
boo fae, so I guess sitting in meetings has some modest benefit. Of course, you’ll have to do cleanup today..
And that’s all for the morning. Need to break my fast shortly and get the day started. Have a good one all.
I woke up to 32°F and a drizzle. It’s now 34°F and foggy, but the fog will give way to clouds, and today’s expected high is 49°F.
Doggio, I’m very sorry about your friend.
Nettie, I am sorry about Allie.
Nellie, sending gentle skritches to daughter’s kitty. I hope the kitty recovers. And, yes, pet abusers deserve one of the most bottomless pits of hell. My Polar had been abused before we adopted him. It took a lot of time and patience to teach him that no males around us were going to harm him.
Coppertone, good news about the benefits.
JtC, I ran into people such as you described while on jury duty. If they made it to voir dire, judges were quick to dismiss them. Also, any who claimed hardship due to not receiving pay.
FCM, I’m glad Roxie has finally recovered enough to ride her bike. I’ll bet she had a blast. The butterfly hatch looks pretty cool!
Boo Fae, I guess missing the drama was good, but boo on having to clean up the mess. I hope it’s easily fixed.
My husband tried to ride his bike for a bit yesterday but realized he was cold. First, he got on the bike (with a helmet) right after his shower. Despite having very little hair left, his head was still damp, and he felt it. He didn’t layer up, so all he had on was jeans and a long-sleeve shirt. He quickly decided he was too cold to ride.
I think I’m going to start building up a set of bike-riding layers for him. I have layers for outdoor activities due to the amount of walking/running I used to do. Christmas is coming, so I think that’ll be a good gift.
Well, I suppose I should finish my coffee and my internettin’. I’m seriously considering hitting the grocery store today for the turkey, but I’ll see what the day brings.
Long day yesterday. I ended up having a cocktail of admin stuff and music marking that took up all of my break time between lessons, then symphony rehearsal started a half hour early (rehearsing for two different programs) so not much break there either.
Today we have a handyman coming to spruce up our front door. It’s the original door from 1978 and needs help. Instead of replacing it for $10-15k, we’re getting it repainted, re-aligned and all new hardware for a little over $1000 total.
Kittens were really good yesterday. We ordered some new toys which I introduced this morning, and they are a big hit.
Not good. Went to a cardiologist. He doesnt think my wpw came back. Good news.
Except. When I went to the bathroom there was blood. On the toilet paper.
I was hoping it was vaginal as I’d used insertable estrogen last week.
Nope. It was higher up. Going to my dr later.
Dang it Boo! What a PITA, you have my sincere sympathy. Don’t be a typical nurse, LISTEN to your doctor and follows their instructions!
What? I’ve never heard of such a thing, now I KNOW I need a fire pit.
There was one county judge who would not put up with that stuff. The very first thing she woudl say when selection started was that if someone didn’t want to serve, she didn’t want them in her courtroom and they should just go home now.
Kittens are always good, even when they are pulling the living room drapes down! I’m glad they like the new toys.
So no applications today. I called the library when they opened and they said nobody had signed up so I won’t be going. If someone does show up, I’ll probably go and help. Its only a five minute drive for me and some folks have transportation issues.
Other than that, my only plans are to look at more chocolate crinkle recipes. I might make a test batch this afternoon, I’ll see how the day goes.
extrasocial this week. originally i thought i only had 2 in condo meetings this week. turns out there was a neighbourhood meeting, and a phila horticultural talk as well. only today and friday are totally free evenings.
the good news is that i was able to do a round of laundry during those talks. usually once i’m in my flat i stay there, even when i plan to get stuff outside the flat done, 98 percent of the time it doesn’t get done. eh, it can wait, is my usual default.
monday was what the city is planning for pennsylvania avenue. it is difficult to get from one side to the other. for some bizarre reason the city has made it difficult to walk to the entrance of the art museum. it is so difficult that the art musuem ran shuttle buses to get across pennsylvania avenue! shuttle buses! because the many crosswalks to get across pa avenue are like playing frogger. they are starting to straighten out the streets to get there bit by bit. the area in front of our condo is phase 2 of 3. it may happen by 2028-2030.
the city is having world cup and 250 celebrations next year. the art museum is going to be heavily hit (of course). the meeting on monday was with a city engineer, the council person for our area, and the police liaison for our area. it went pretty well. we got a chance to layout our concerns.
the officials moved over to the condo next door after us. i’m sure that was…intense. the other condo is known for being combative. they do get the brunt of the activities at the art museum. the way the building is designed and orientated does not help. it creates a sound funnel into the units in the front. our building is a block to the back of the art museum, and orientated bow on to the museum not embracing broadside.
last night was about the phila horticultural society. the big flower show is just around the corner at the bottom of feb.. this is a huge fund raiser for the society and the city. i did not know there were so many ways to get into the show. i do like to go. usually i go after work when the crowds are lessened. during the day is insane and the weekends are just pure chaos.
tonight is a free night! i’m sure i will not to anything more than chair and book. i am having intrusive thoughts of “doing something”. i will just push them down. i might do a few 5 minute tidy things…
jtc, i’m glad i inspired chocolate. always a good thing and how fun to have chocolate arrive at your door just when you need it.
scareyfaerie, i had no idea bananas sing! huh.
aspenglow, i like ember. lots of good nicknames from that. your spider story was missing some flailing and eeeeeeeee sounds.
i am a hat wearer (the slap, of slop, slip, slap). recently i have ordered way too many from boston scally. one of the things i have in mind is to put some hangers on the wall. that way i can grab and go rather than rummage and go.
When I was taking public transit regularly, the only time the AC worked on the trains was in winter. I’d literally be shivering when I got off the train.
First coat is done and drying. Can’t put on the second for 24 hours, so max chill mode in effect. Well, it will be after I pull something out of the freezer for supper.
Last year I bought one a few days after the first of December, or maybe it was the first. Anyway, it was 50% off. I might do that again this year.
I think this is the first time I’ve seen face cord in writing, as most people will just use cord. My parents have had a wood stove since I was 10, and they still use it, but only to add some warmth to the tv room in the evening, and when the power’s out. My dad always mentions face cord when talking about how much wood he has stored.
Both of my parents were scouts and if I couldn’t build a fire before, I certainly learned how to when they got the wood stove. When I was in middle school I went on a church retreat. None of the adults could build a fire in the wood stove used to heat the place. I had to do it. I’ve never had my own place with a wood stove, but we’ve rented places with one. Very nice.
Sounds yummy, but it reminds me of the rum cake joke.
And I just realized hubby’s high school, just north of Philly, planned their reunion the week before 4th July. That should make flights and hotels extra pricey.
I read it all. Phew!
Busy week, including a long overdue visit to a proper eye doctor who told me I have to come back in 2 years to get a check up, including a visual field test, because my eye pressure is elevated, but not yet considered glaucoma. I don’t know of any family history of glaucoma.
We have no centipedes here, or negative, so I’ve been getting out the warmer outerwear and sweaters. Tomorrow there might be some of that flakey white stuff, and I don’t mean dandruff.
