Can you spot the misspelling?
It’s the one for DC.
Hard to make out at the resolution on my phone, but is it “nintey” for ninety?
They’ve since fixed it. The ninnies. ![]()
Hard to make out the resolution on anything. Do you have a better image, like maybe the original one this came from?
Poor New Hampshire.
At least Michigan’s is kind of hard.
Tomorrow is listed for two states, but AZ it’s colored as a 6-10 character letter, and CO it’s colored as a 11-19 character letter.
Mistake, or the common length of the guessed spelling?
I am worried about Wisconsin.
This reminds me of a map blooper that occurred when I outsourced the production of my organization’s annual special-edition magazine. I’ve done lots of publication management over the years, and I would NEVER allow anyone involved in the printing process to make last-minute changes without getting an approval from an editor. However, the firm I used had no such qualms.
The magazine included a map of the US, with names of each state superimposed. Most of the states were able to have the names spelled out, but states with small areas and long names were labeled with abbreviated forms. This was the case for “Louisiana,” which had been reduced to “LA.”
The magazine was being published in Indonesia, where a certain lack of familiarity with US state names is understandable. So some know-it-all local spotted the “LA” and said, “Wait a minute, there is enough room to spell that out!” and changed it, without consulting anyone, to … Los Angeles. :smack:
It was especially awful because the president of the board was from New Orleans. At least the mistake wasn’t MY fault.
Well, maybe there’s lots of people who don’t want to be there.
I’m worried about Oregon. I’m not surprised by Mississippi, Tennessee, North Carolina or Georgia (yes, I’m generalizing about the South). But I grew up in Oregon and I thought they were better than that.
I call bullshit on West Virginia and Connecticut.
I’m with, what is that, Iowa? I always want to type “vaccuum”.
Yeah, CT’s is probably “Masshole” or “Tradishunul.”
Disappointed that “misspell” itself wasn’t the top misspelled word in any state.
Brand new and quite apt obligatory XKCD.
Maybe they’re overwhelmed by an overpopulation of Mary Poppins fans.
