ambushed, drawing statistical conclusions about a group is not the same as stereotyping, which often connotes a value judgment. I’m not tall. Should I be offended if a study of American males my age proves that I’m below average height? Should the entire group resent the stereotype that they are, on average, say 5’10? I don’t think so. I might be insulted if somebody said “short people got no reason to live.” But that’s different - it’s a judgment instead of a factual evaluation.
I realize sexuality is a much touchier subject. (Sorry!) But that kind of criticism sounds a bit Luddite to me.
