Who knew? They haven’t publicized anything over the internet. Does anyone know what the goings on will be?
Yes, all gay people will receive 10% off of their already reasonably priced merchandise. Bisexuals will only receive a 5% discount and straights and asexuals will have to pay full price.
hmmmmm…an extra 10% off on powertools? What gay man wouldn’t like that!
This is when the recruiters pick up their toaster ovens.
Guess it depends on the tool.

Link?
No link…just a big friggin’ sign and rainbow flags in the Atrium here at the Corporate offices.
Sears is real big on (evidently) corporate-sponsored groups, i.e., disabled, single parents, ethnic groups, and the like. They’re real big into diversity.
Is the event for employees or customers?
Employees, I’m guessing…I’m sure it would have been publicized elsewhere if they had a thing going in the stores. As far as I know, this is strictly for the corporate office employees, of which there are around 5,000. (It’s a BIIIG place).

So you work out at Prairie Stone? It may seem odd to ask after so many years, but what do Sears people who worked at the Sears Tower think of the company’s move from downtown to the 'burbs?

It’s not so unusual for large corporations to have their own LGBT group, and for them to push for recognition. I’m sure they also have celebrations during Black Pride Month, for women’s issues, etc. But go Sears anyway!

Yes, they do a huge thing during Black Pride Month. They also have a lot of religious groups. I think the company donates space for them to hold meetings. I’m curious, though. What would go on in a gay meeting? I seriously doubt there are claims of hostile work environment or anything like that, because the company makes it VERY clear that it won’t be tolerated. I just wonder if it would be totally non-work related or if there would be other work-related issues that weren’t revolving around hostility, per se.
I am but a lowly temp, but the buzz I hear is that people from the Tower are mostly city dwellers, and the Prairie Stone complex is literally out in the middle of a field in Suburbia, so the commute is rather taxing. But they have free shuttles from the train stations and they have a number of buses that pick people up throughout the city. In addition to that, they have a ride share van program where they give an employee use of a van as long as they pick up X number of people and take them to work every day. In my opinion, they are a very generous company and really tried to keep all the old-timers happy.
No matter what a company says, there are always issues of discrimination. Just because a company has a strong sexual harassment policy, for example, doesn’t mean sexual harassment doesn’t happen! Most times these groups are at least as much social as “issues,” if not moreso.
Esprix
Esprix, you are probably right, regarding issues. There are always a few bad apples in the bunch. But you gotta see this place! It’s like the Stepford Wives on steroids! Everyone is polite and smiling and I never hear anyone dissing their boss. It’s kinda spooky, actually. But I find it refreshing. Refreshing, but somehow, un-American.
Well, certainly not normal. Just imagine they’re all either having huge sex orgies in the copier room when you’re not looking, or the CEO’s are casting spells in the basement.

My company was just voted the #1 company for lesbians to work in by Girlfriends magazine. So there.
No, this does not affect me in any way.
I saw the thread title and thought-- We’re here. We’re queer. Get shoes to fit!
Dunno why. Mebbe 'cuz I’m strange.
Damn. I was getting all geared up for my 5% discount. I guess that’s a no-go, then, eh?
