Gaza vs West Bank

Palestinian politics are dominated in the Gaza Strip by the Islamist Hamas organization and by Fatah in the West Bank. Is this indicative of a cultural divide between these two parts of the state of Palestine, i.e. are Gazans more conservative and religious, and West Bankers more secular?

In the first place, you are conflating Gazans with Hamas. Hamas controls Gaza, but many Gazans are not the fanatics that Hamas is. The only reason Hamas was voted in was due to the corruption of Fatah under Arafat. The Fatah leader in the West Bank appears, on the surface, to be willing to compromise. Hamas is labeled a terrorist organization by the US and several other countries. They are both religious but have different philosophies.
