Gearheads: help me change my brake pads

Ahh, those pads were almost still new!

I knew someone who was not too adept at vehicle maintenance, and one day, we were driving somewhere in their car, and the brakes went “Grrssssshhhh!” I asked about the noise, and he said they had been squealing for a while and stopped, so he thought they were OK.

You could look through the wheel spokes and tell that his pads were down to the rivets and were chewing big canyons into the rotors. The squeakers had been worn off long ago.

You’re aware the one of the left is the new one and the one on the right is the old one right? The old pads had maybe a millimeter left on them.

I misinterpreted that image by a fair margin then. That’ll teach me not to believe my lyin’ eyes! :o
