Oh yes. Love wasabi. As to whether it vanishes quickly or sticks like napalm, I think it depends on the medium. Wasabi peas… you have to keep eating them because if you stop, the pain, oh the pain…makes my eyes water to think of it. Even so, the pain dies down faster than the pain from jalapenos and other hot peppers. Probably because of the oils in pepper heat that causes adherence to mouth and finger tissue.
Does anyone know the origins of this dish?
As Moses and the Children of Israel were crossing through the parted Red Sea, Moses heard cries about how thirsty they were after walking so far. Unfortunately, the water was salty and not drinkable. Miraculously, a fish appeared from the wall of water and told Moses that she and her family heard the pleas of the people. The fish said to Moses that she and her family would remove the salt from the water by passing it through their gills and forcing it out of their mouths. The water would be fresh like a fountain from which the Israelites could drink as they walked by. Moses accepted this kindly offer. To remember the miracle of the fish who transformed salt water to fresh water, Moses let it be known that hence forth the Sedar to honor the Exodus would always include “Gill Filter Fish”
I’m the only non-Jewish person in my family and I love gefilte fish, but I only have it once per year at Passover. So, I guess I haven’t had time to learn to hate it. And, on a side note, my father in law makes some matzah ball soup that will make you wanna slap your mama.

No, it is the least expensive fish you can buy at the market.
Nice Jewish Boys do not “slap their Mama”.
And they capitalize it.
Sauce for kishke.
I had some yummy kishke at Rubin’s in Brookline. They had a sauce with them that I’d like to make. I even had the Evile Ex-Mrs. Plant call them from Arkansas. Being from Long Island, she speaks New Englandese. “Youse guys had dis sauce wid da kishke…” They wouldn’t pony up.
Do any dopers have a kishke recipe with sauce or gravy?
I can’t make it for Passover of course, but the oven is broken anyway.
